I hope this is the right place to post this.
I wanted to know if there are some good places in NYC to find GI Joes, ME or vintage. I'm kinda looking for specialty stores like toy stores or comic book stores. Help me out! Thanks! UDS

forbbiden planet on broadway and 13th street has stuff but not to sure about vintage . time machine on 14th between 8th and 7th ave sometimes has old stuff but might be able to tell you where you can find older stuff they deal with a lot of old comics and toys sometimes.. im sure there are other places but i can't think of em at the top of my head at the moment lol

If you find anything, let me know. I live in midtown on the East side and have not seen anything. Midtown Comics has a handful, but their prices are usually expensive. I went to the TRU a few times, but the location in Times Square is terrible and the selection was pretty weak, which is surprising. Come to think of it, the only time I ever bought Joes in NYC was at a TRU Express and that was 2 years ago.

St. Mark's comics might have some, Forbidden Planet is hit or miss, although I recall Amoktime out in the Island had some great stuff behind the glass. Pretty sure Love Saves is closed.

I think the days of easily finding loose vintage toys in big cities like NYC are over.
Ever since sites like eBay and Craigslist came on the scene you seem to see less and less of loose vintage figures at any locations in major cities across the country. If you even check the threads on here in which deal with people posting thier vintage hauls, it always seems to be from low populated areas of the country. Now I'm not saying that you will never find these items in big cities such as NYC, but your best bet is to check comic stores and flea markets which are far away from the city as possible. That's just my opinion though.

There is a toy store somewhere close to St Marks place that used to have loose ARAH figures. I wish I remember the name of it. Wander around there and see what you find, it's a fun neighborhood anyway.

Love Saves the Day is definitely closed...about 2 years ago, maybe longer. They had lots of cool stuff, I remember vintage 12inch Joes but not too much ARAH stuff.
Toy Tokyo is a great store, not sure if they have any Joes at the moment. Cool for other stuff though. St. Marks Comics has lots of figures and toys, I remember seeing some Valor vs. Venom or Joe vs. Cobra figures there a while back, no vintage that I can recall, though. Maybe they have newer Joes, it's worth a look. Midtown Comics (the Times Sq. and Grand Central locations) have some Sideshow 12" Joes and some leftover ROC figures. You might find a few 25th single carded lingering around at the GC store. I haven't stopped in either one in a few weeks, but they might have gotten some 30th Ann. in. Other than Joes, they have tons of other great stuff. Good prices, nice staff too. Forbidden Planet (Union Square) has some 25th and ROC stuff. They might have gotten some of the new figures in, too. They also have a great selection of other figures, statues, video games, comics, etc. There's TONS of CVS, Duane Reed, Wal-Greens and Rite Aid stores on practically every corner, most have some toys and possibly Joes. Also, there's a few Marshall's and TJ Maxx's around which might still have the old 25th and ROC stuff that they've all carried in the past year or 2. Worth a look, I think. Then there's the aforemention TRU Time Square, which is just a nightmare to get in and out of. You really have to be there at the right moment to get anything good, especially since most other TRUs that aren't as busy as this one barely have any new Joes on the pegs/shelves. I'd say skip it. Hope some of this helps. You coming to town for the Comic Con? I can imagine they'll be tons of good stuff there. |

Love New York but the only thing you'll find are bright lights, taxi's, and the best darn slice of Pizza you'll ever have in your life.
