Hello all!
Phalsis here, I thought I would add the retailer point of view in selling G.I.Joes and other such toys to let you know what I see from the other side of the counter. I've been running my shop for the better part of eleven years now. We sell everything from figures to comics to models and games. So I've seen it all in one way or another. First off I've been selling the Joes since before the 20th anniversary series and we've sold a lot of the classic lines. Kids do buy the 25th Anniversary Joes, no matter what many may think. 50% of my figures sales of Joes and nearly 80% of my HALO sales are to kids under twelve. Star Wars is the same as HALO for sales. Surprising? Now you know why they put a Snake-Eyes in every case. Kids want ninjas, kids buy ninjas,Hasbro says give'em ninjas! Prices. I don't gouge because I don't like to. Those of you that have bought of the collection and other things Skullshine and I have sold know that. I mark up to cover the expenses and make some profit, that's it. The majority of stores like mine aren't out to screw you. Just remember we have to pay bills too. I sell my Joes for $7.00,HALO for $13.00 and Star Wars for $8.00. The Joes are cheap compared to the others. The reason some figures such as HALO and Star Wars are expensive is licensing. Lucas wants his cut as does Bungie. So it goes into the price and marks it up. I don't like it but there it is. Licensing affects the prices of every single toy line in existance! Remember that the next time you wonder why something popular is so expensive. Licensing breakdown. For those of you that don't understand let me give an example. A model of a Ford Mustang. Licensing covers the following: name brand Engine name brand tires name brand FORD name brand MUSTANG name brand wheels name brand custom parts Then they add in the price for the cost of making it and spread the costs of licensing over how many they make. Understand? this affects GIJoe,Star Wars,HALO,Gears of War,DC figures,Marvel and on and on and on. The designer gets his money, the company get theirs, the box artist get theirs, the people that print the decasl get theirs, the instructions and so on. Delays. HASBRO has never put anything out on time. The big FALCON that is out now, that was due in June. The current wave of HALO's, Due in May. I just pre-ordered wave four due in may of '09! The current wave of Joes with the BATS, that was due in June. Also things wave ship. They start on the west coast and work their way west. It takes time, be paitent, it will get to you eventually. I hope this has provided some insight into what it's like on the other side of the counter. Ya'll take care! Phalsis, |

Ninjas are like cursing, alchohol, and strong spices in food.
The more the merrier. |
