Such as seeing tons of G.I. Joe figures row after row on the pegs like 10 or 14 figures each on each peg where you had to flip through them to see what else there was.
Then there was Star Wars, he-man, transformers, Power Lords and Smurfs back then when we were kids. Me and others in our 30s of course though |

Honestly, I miss playsets. Good playsets were abundant in the 80's for most lines. Today, its a forgotten concept.
Also liked nobody buying them to sell online, etc.. Just buy for your own consumption. Please scalpers... go back to baseball cards or something. |

The abundance of variety in fewer action figure lines.
No movie actor-likeness action figures. 99.9% of them are a waste of plastic.

I miss being 10 years old, Christmas of 1984. And playsets and big vehicles.

I miss the surprise of finding new figures. Back when we didn't know what was in each wave, etc. We didn't know what the 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986 lineup was but it showed up in mass and we were in awe. I didn't know GI Joe was coming out in 1982 but it was on the shelf and kids discovered it in stores or department stores. I also miss the Sears Wishbook and Wards Christmas catalog.

I miss going to Hill's or TRU and seeing the entire side of an isle was nothing but GIJoe from endcap to endcap. Seeing a dozen flags stacked up on the bottom of the shelf and thinking holy crap the box is taller than I am!! Miss the days when the USS Flagg didn't only rule the seas, it ruled the toy isles too! The Terror Drome, Tactical Battle Platform, the Defiant..the General, the MCC, both headquarters. Playsets were huge and they ruled! Whoever had one was a god amoung kids!
I miss the days before we had scalpers, and there was more GIJoe's than just Duke, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow and Cobra Commander. And the awsome catalogs, that the entire year of GIJoe was already planned out and set up and along about Febuary or so you'd see some new vehicle that wasn't on the old catalog and open it and just stare in wide eyed amazement at all the new stuff coming out that year and whoever got the new catalog would bring it to school so everyone could see the new stuff. Looking forward to watching GIJoe every morning before school. That was the one thing I hated about going to Jr. High, had to get up earlier to ride the earlier bus and couldn't watch GIJoe anymore. Even if by then it was just the DIC and not the old sunbow series. Watching saturday morning cartoons and seeing a new GIJoe toy commerical and then going over to my friends house or just calling them to see if they'd seen it too. I miss the days when just seeing a GIJoe commerical was enough to keep you and your friends talking for a days and days on end about whatever the new stuff was. to sum it up, I miss the 1980's. GIJoe, Star Wars, Centurions, Air Raiders, Captain Power, Gobots, Transformers...truely it was a golden age of being a kid. |
