Does anybody else sense a small feeling of shame when you submit to the speculator driven buy it now prices on ebay? It's almost as if you're validating the inflated price but at the same time fear missing out and paying more later. Oh well, that's where I'm at right now. Any thoughts?

I have no guilt in paying inflated prices, in fact I paid $14 for a buzzer on ebay last year when it was really hot and couldn't find them in stores only to see them warming pegs as of the last few months. so really if its something you really want then I'd say go for it, if its something you want badly right now! then yea do it.
eventually it will be in stores. can't say the same for wave 8 and 9. and i'm so close to buying a set on ebay but i just don't want it to become another buzzer if smell what Bludhound is cookin.

Well I only use BIN's if it's a price I'm willing to pay. not "OMG THIS R@RE" prices

I've got no problem paying a little higher if that means it saves me time and energy looking for something. It's great to find something on the rack in store, but really, especially for the hard to find figures, I prefer to just order, whether on ebay or online retailer, and have it come to me. I'd rather be hanging with friends and family than spending hours hunting one figure.
As for Ebay, normally I'll use Buy it Now only if I know past auctions have gone past the BIN price. |

In this case the BIN price was much lower than the other BIN prices and it ended up costing me on average what the other auctions are going for (only without the wait). So we know what we're talking about here it's the Black headed Destro pack. I don't know how hard to find this thing is going to be, but I'd rather not run the risk of not being able to find it later. I may feel dumb for overpaying if they turn out to be common but it's not like I'll miss the money I spent come next payday.

what goes around comes around. It all evens out in the end. I have gotten the shorter stick on trades. I have paid almost double for some troopers. I also got a yellow stalker moc for under $20. My point is don't be mad or ashamed to be "ripped off" or to buy something overpriced. I truly believe in karma.

I remember last year after SDCC, gold headed Destros were going for $80-100 & Silver $40-70 (MOC)...But I resisted, however, I got my Silver & Gold through HTS (however, my Gold was the AFA 9.5 I paid $150)...But now the Gold (regular) goes for $200+ and the AFA goes for $300-500...So to answer the question is I would have done well buying a GOLD destro after SDCC..
Con exclusives I probably would get now...However, if its a figure(s) that just hit the shelves, no I would wait about a year or more... Look at DOC, people were selling him for $50...now you can get one for $20-30... I just came from WM and they had at least 5 of each Fett & Stormtrooper Mighty Muggs, but people were paying $30 each for these...I waited and got both for $20... Sometimes I do feel alittle guilt. But that tends to go away when the box arrives and rip it open like its Christmas morning. Sometimes it seems like theres no other choice. I check for other listings for something and see what its going for and if I cant find it somewhere else cheaper and then finally give into ebay. It does save some gas after all.
One thing though I've been doing lately is buying several figures from one seller even though they are higher priced than others but they generally have cheap shipping so I make up the cost difference in the shipping. But even that is starting to cost too much so I've finally started pre-ordering cases. It does baffle me how people can charge the crazy shipping rates they do on ebay. Such as 8 bucks shipping for a loose figure in a 75 cent bubble package. But thats getting off topic. I had been hunting for a Grunt and Grand Slam but I finally gave in and just bought the officer three pack from TRU. As much as the Grunts have been going for on ebay it was just cheaper to buy the three pack. Finally scored a Grand Slam last night for kinda cheap. But I had alittle guilt over that one, paying more than its going for at Target...if I could find the Night Spec at any of the local Targets. Looking forward to the Rattler and Conquest and the Ultimate battlepack but alittle bothered that with the great stocking at the local Targets I'll have to resort to ebay to get them. hehe I got alittle long winded there, sorry about that. |
