I dont think its just joes. i've been a steady collector of things since 1977.pretty much cover imo all the cool stuff. comic books,coins,magazines,figures,records,tapes,7"s,ho t wheels,nascar...i could go on.its easy to get out of hand with any hobby.
I think we just have to take a step back every now and then and look things over. One thing that i've always considered sage advice and its easily overlooked,is appreciate what youve got. Time off is always good when it gets overwhelming.come back when your ready with a fresh start. or like mentioned, finding wave 9 to give a kickass boostin! |

Im not bored with joes at all......but.........buying two of everything is starting to seriously take up some space.....and im rethinking the idea.
Do I really need 2 of each vehicle? etc etc. Speaking of which, anyone want a misb black hiss? The ones that just came out. I dont need it. |

Not recently, but I know what you mean. Back in the late 90's I did go through a patch of "collector's enuii" A lot of bad stuff was happening and Joe suddenly became rather insignificant. Took a couple of years for me to get over it too.

I got burnt out after about wave 6. Ive since sold off most of the figures I have and just kept the figures I like the most. As new waves come out, I just get the ones I like. I went from probably 75 carded figures, down to about 20 right now.
For me, not being a completist makes the hobby fun again. Theres just too much coming out....(not that that is a bad thing...great for the hobby...but bad for me) |

I definitely know how you feel, but for me it's Star Wars figures that I've become burned out on. I'm only interested in SW characters based on the original trilogy and they're running out of new action figures to make of those. Just the fact that they actually made the six-breasted fat dancer shows that their choices are getting slim. Darth Vader with a removable helmet was always a dream figure for me when I was a kid and Hasbro has already made five versions of that Vader figure in the last 10 years. So it just feels like everything has already been done over and over again and the all-new figures are less and less interesting.
That's actually the main reason that I've gotten back into collecting Joes so much. I'm burned out on Star Wars and just want to focus on something different....

i'm currently selling the majority of my collection, but it isn't because i'm burnt out. if i had the money, i would spend ungodly sums on this 25th stuff. i love it.
however, i did get burned out in the early 2000's and got rid of everything i had at that point. didn't get back into it until the 25th line came out. i tend to do that with everything, though, not just Joes. get jazzed up and overspend, then have buyers/collectors remorse and get rid of it. |

I feel burned out on Joe's every time I look at my bank account. But that feeling is usually gone a few hours later.

That's actually the main reason that I've gotten back into collecting Joes so much. I'm burned out on Star Wars and just want to focus on something different. I actually liked GI Joe better as a kid and I have more fond memories of playing with GI Joe figures back then since I had more of them. My parents never liked the sci-fi nature of Star Wars and GI Joe was just far enough within the boundaries of reality to be acceptable. So I'm actually enjoying myself more now with collecting Joes than I have over the last 9 years or so of collecting Star Wars figures. Sure there aren't that many figures coming out, but that's kind of refreshing compared to the frenetic pace of Star Wars collecting during times like these with a new movie coming out. But then again, I've only been collecting Joes for the last few months and the last time I was this heavily into GI Joe was 1986. So it's still all fresh and new to me. Maybe in a couple of years, I'll feel the same as the OP and be ready to call it quits. Yeah, I started out in '95 with POTF and was a completist up through episode one, then selective through AOTC and just bought a hadfull since then. I went to toys r us and target last saturday and found myself very thankful that I am not a SW collector. I'm sure if I was still a SW completist I could have easily dropped over a Grand on Firday night. I hope Joes don't get as gluttonous in the years to come, but I have a feeling if they get any more popular, they will. |
