I just realized that none of us actually answered your original question.
Who are the best G.I. Joe pilots? That's actually easy! All of them! Don't believe me? Just ask them! Every combat pilot thinks he/she is the best there is, everyone else is just flying for 2nd place! |

I'm going to go with Ace...based on # of Cobra kills and all around badass aircraft. Slipstream lives in his shadow, and Lift Ticket couldn't cut it at Jet school so they stuck him in a Chinook!

The cartoon ruined Ace for me. It seemed like he was always the first Joe to get shot down in the air battles. I'm not sure he ever made it back to base with his jet intact. Sunbow made Slipstream the man in the second season.

Was Skidmark a pilot? (Not that I care, it's just the worst code-name)
I'd have to go with Ace and Wild Bill. Their senior members, their MOS is pilot, and they get the best toys! As for the 2nd Gen. 86' figures...I never liked how the first few years got replaced and forgotten, so there is NO ONE called Slipstream in my verse! hehe. People like Sci-Fi, Wet Suit, Leatherneck, Life-Line, Lift Ticket, Cross Country, Iceberg, and Dialtone play second fiddle to Flash, Torpedo, Gung Ho, Doc, Wild Bill, Steeler/Clutch, Snow Job, and Breaker. Allthough Beachhead is badass, and a technical replacement for Stalker, their both cool, and irreplaceable. And Low Light Stands Alone. There's been a lot of Joes who are pilots, or are pilot qualified... But you really can't mess with the OGs And the same holds true with ground vehicles I know I'm rambling, but I brin up good points ;) You also have to think, that G.I.Joe/Delta, whatever you wanna call it, basic training would include rudimentry knowledge in how to fly some of the standard vehicles and aircraft. I'm not saying Cutter can fly a Skystriker But vehicles like the ARAH Sharc, Sky Hawk, Devil Fish, VAMP, Snow Cat, and RAM... Maybe even Dragonfly 101. I would consider a pre-requisite for anyone on a"best of the best" team, regardless of their Specialty. But driving a Tank or flying a jet is a far cry from rudimentry knowledge. Even though it may have happened in the cartoons, I can't see Thunder going "Yeah, I flew a Tomahawk into a hot LZ once. Got our people out...It was a good day." Ok, done.
