I don't like the way GI Joe has been handled the past few years. It's been nothing but trouble trying to collect the figures. I can't think of any other toy line that has been a bigger pain in the ass to collect. The 2002 MOTU line was really bad but GI Joe is just plain ridiculous.

And the desert ambush Scarlett is IMO the greatest female action figure to date. So much customizing potential that I can't keep up with all my cool ideas. Last edited by Steelgrave; 08-04-2011 at 06:23 AM.. |

I felt attached to Scarlett. I never cared for Scarlett & I didn't know who Rachel Nichols was but after seeing ROC I'm in love with both.
However, I really loved Scarlett in Renegades.

Like I said, I want to, but I don't have any means to get my hands on them except to buy them without reading them first, and I don't want to do that unless I know I like them. The only library even remotely close to me with a copy of the trades is 30 miles from where I live.
However, if I see the first volume for a really good price, I'll probably just get it anyway. |

Damn. It's been a while. But I've actually got some stuff to talk about. Specifically: toys. I'll go in order of when I got them, just for simplicity's sake.
First, I got 25th Anniversary Cobra Commander off of Amazon for 10 bucks shipped. Not a bad deal, if you ask me. The figure... is decent. Nothing really spectacular about him, but nothing really wrong with him either, except for maybe his hips, which are a little loose, and his helmet, which doesn't snap on as securely as I'd like. But otherwise, I rather like him and it's nice to have a representation of the classic Commander. Next, I got Renegades CC and Snake Eyes from Target at the same time. I already commented on them in another thread, but I'll say again: my one complaint with both of them is that they don't hold their accessories that well. I know I could just do that hot.cold water trick, but I've been too lazy to try it as of this time, so they've still got the issue. Also, there's one thing about Snake Eyes that just totally kills the figure for me: his neck articulation. He's got a ball joint, but the way his head is sculpted makes it function like a cut joint. Only swiveling left and right. On any other figure I'd probably look past it, but this is Snake Eyes. A ninja. A ninja who can't look up. Come on, Hasbro. How many versions of this guy have you done? Finally, just today, I got Renegades Scarlett from... Walgreens. More on why that's important in a bit. Scarlett is an excellent figure. Her sculpt is simple, but effective, with some great detail given to several points on--HOLY FUCK DAT ASS! Seriously, her posterior got lot of love, and I'm actually simultaneously impressed and disturbed by that fact. Her articulation is also great, only lacking a thigh swivel. She can even do a RAIDA KIIIICKUUU!!!!!! Even her head is only slightly hindered by the pony tail, something I've been waiting for on a female figure for a long, long time. This is the articulation Snake Eyes should have had. Although, one thing did happen that was my fault: I somehow managed to make her left ankle ridiculously loose after only a couple hours. Derp. Gonna try the super-glue trick. It's worked on ball joints before, but I've never tried it with the kind of joint Scarlett has on her ankles. Wish me luck. Now, as for the major point of contention for a lot folks, the accessory count, it honestly doesn't bug me that much. Aside from a laptop, I can't think of anything she even could have come with, so I'm cool with the two weapons she's got. That's just me though. I mentioned the fact that I got her at Walgreens at the start. Now, those of you who've been to a Walgreens toy aisle know why this is a thing, but for those not in the know: Walgreens gouges the prices on everything not pharmaceutical, and toys are no exception. G.I. Joes from there cost $11.99 before tax. With 10% Illinois sales tax, I paid $13.13 for my Scarlett. Why? Because I'm a masochist and have no self-control. I could have easily waited to go to a Walmart, Target, or even Toys 'R Us, but no, I was up there getting some medicine, saw Scarlett on the peg, and just had to scratch the itch. Can't wait, gotta have her NOWNOWNOW. So yeah, the lesson here kids is: get Scarlett, but don't get her from Walgreens. Walgreens is evil.

You could check and see if your local comic shop carries the Graphic Novel series "Classic GI Joe." There are twelve volumes, each contains ten of the orginal 1980's Joe Comics archived together, at the price of 19.99 per volume. Your Comic Shop might be cool with you flipping through one before buying. This is perhaps the most cost effective way to obtain and read the comics. Welcome aboard , by the way.
