This is highly ironic, because Sideshow's site used to be TERRIBLE during hot preorders. When they first got the Star Wars license it was just as bad as HTS was today. It was so busy and congested one of their servers literally CAUGHT FIRE(they posted a picture). It was so bad that after years of complaints they finally eventually moved to the system they have today, which I agree is far superior.
However Sideshow is a far more customer service oriented company than Hasbro. They rely on one to one fan interaction(to a degree) and they primarily offer their product online. Hasbro has three main clients: Walmart, Target, and TRU. Then a great deal of smaller chains and stores. Way down the list is their HTS client base. They spend the majority of their time concentrating on pleasing those big chains; while I'm sure our complaining will get through to the Hasbro brass to a degree, it won't have the impact that people complaining to Sideshow did back in the day. The best hope we have of getting the exclusives we want in a reasonably painless(if not cheap) manner is the Collector's Club. If their sub takes off I don't think we'll see nearly as many of these highly desired figures dangled as SDCC exclusives through HTS.

What would it take for Hasbro to do this?
A freaking act of GOD. Face it SDCC exclusives or just regular product from HTS is always going to be an issue. The way Hasbro sees it, we did our part (giving you Zarana) they sold out. You didn't get one, oh well life goes on. We got our $$$$.

I agree with you...the GIJCC is in the best position to take over this, but what happened this year? The Club was left out of getting the exclusives and it was handled by HTS. I guarantee you that if SDCC exclusives were handled ONLY by GIJCC, more product would get into the hands of collectors and fans, not scalpers.
I think Hasbro made Zatana as the exclusive because it had nowhere else to put her - they didn't believe she would fit at retail, and likely didn't think she'd be an acceptable store exclusive. If you look at the other brands they did exclusives for this year, they did packaging/deco variants of retail figures. Except Indy, which was a one-off to please the fans of that line. What I am hoping for is that eventually Hasbro won't put such a desirable character as their SDCC exclusive, but instead something that might be cool but non-essential, like a set of 30th Anniversary figures on 25th cardbacks or something like that. |
