I am guessing that the auctioned piece from Lavine was the original prototype? That would make sense.
The most expensive retail version of the GI Joe is the 60's GI Joe Nurse.

yeah, this has to be a proto. i'll ask my 12" collector buddy. you know, that book that came with the masterpiece 12" reissues was very interesting! loved that book.
