if i were bill gates rich? glad you asked. a store called toys r fun the size, layout and colors of tru circa 1984 with aisles full of sealed toys. Aisles set up like the old layout... or Aisles labeled 1977, 78, 79, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85 and whatever other years would fit.
it would be a museum. curators, archivists and other full-time staffers would be dressed in old tru outfits -- ideally collector gurus from all lines, paid well for what they love to do. guests would come to speak, sign etc. open on weekends. i live in there during the week. crazy? yes, but with unlimited funds, it could be done. it would be the only one in the nation, so it would attract the cream of the crop from all communities. we would accept donated collections and we'd probably get some. anyone have 10 mil. start-up cap.? yes, i'm aware this would never happen... |

I wonder if there is a Mom and Pop store somewhere in the US that just never sold off their 80's toys. Like maybe in the middle of some small town and a Wally World or Toys R Us was built and people slowly stopped coming to their store.
They could have pegs full of dusty MOC Joes, Thundercats, Transformers ;(. Then when you walk back to the stock room they have cases of old Hasbro logos dated 1984, 1986, 1987 G.I. Joe. Then you see Kenner boxes, Remco, Galoob ;( This store has to be out there somewhere. This reminds me of an episode of American Pickers when they went to this old Harley Davidson store. The guy had 1,000's and 1,000's of boxes sealed of old HD bike parts. He had all this inventory when he owned his motorcycle shop. Frank and Mike were in heaven. |
