Just wondering if anyone else finds it sort of funny that the Cartoon and Comic are being used as cannon or inspiration for the new figures. To me it always seemed like (back in the day of course) that the comic and mostly the toons were sort of a very general representation of the figures. Great pains were taken to make Shipwreck or Bazooka likeable characters so that the boring figures would sell.
Now there is lots of phrases like 'toon accurate' and 'comic accurate' being thrown around. Which I really don't mind, I just think it is sort of ironic if not down right funny. I'm not against it by any means. During the early years of the Comic I wanted so many of the characters that were not made until the last few years. (like Kwinn...) Baroness was in issue 1 but didn't see a plastic likeness for a year or 2. And if you go back and read some of the letters to the editor at the end of the comic, there are quite a few questions like "hey, when is Hasbro going to make Oktober Guard"... etc.. And if I'm not mistaken, the answer was always along the lines of 'these are comic characters only... or no Soviets... Any thoughts? btw, one of my favorite of the 25th is the new Arctic Trooper Snake Eyes, straight out of the comic of course... |

I guess the simple answer is that it's the 25th anniversary and the toons and comics are being celebrated just as much as the figures themselves.

And I'd say they're doing it quite well. The MASS Device is a brilliant set to release. I'm kind of amazed that it took this long. (well, the RAH comic sets were a step in that direction)
There's lots of material to pull from... |

I never liked (or understood) how(why) some of the figures looked different than the cartoon and comics, so getting "cartoon accurate" is great to me. I wish all the figures looked like their cartoon forms.

In most cases though, it was probably just a lot of artistic licence. |

For the most part, I like it when the 25th figures look like their old figure artwork or the old figures themselves.

I don't see that much of a difference between the figures and comics or cartoons. I personally thought the cartoons were extremely cheesy, and I didn't really see a lot of them growing up, because we didn't have cable, or they weren't picked up in syndicate by any of our local stations. The original 5-part series ran, and that was pretty good, but the only stuff I got to see after that (until the release on Rhino DVD or YouTube) was the stuff on VHS. And watching it now - man, some of it is really awful. But, I can appreciate it for it's camp value. I did like the comic series, and read most of those growing up from issue #1. I like that Hasbro is willing to make some of the figures from both the comics and cartoon, even if it means more repaints. I like the original card artwork a lot though. I hope they keep it the way it is, even though they're supposed to change it for the movie line. The artwork is what brought me back. I tried getting back into G.I. Joe when Spy Troops first came out, but I had a hard time adjusting to the way the figures were made different. I love the way they are now, however.
