My idea with this thread is for the AFA veterans to help the AFA rookies like myself.
If any Hisstanker out there have any inquiries about how AFA works, please post your questions here, and hopefully our AFA veterans can help us out. I would like to start with the first question. Q: What grade can I expect one of my vintage figures to get if it's only flaw is a light vein-like crease on the front-upper-left hand corner? (Blister is in great condition with no dents or yellowing.) |

My guess is between a 75 or 80. I'm not an expert but I do have some figures that look like 80 but are a 75 or vice versa.

Give us a super size pic !
Other than that, hold the package at an angle so the light above you(stand under one) reflects on the card/bubble, if you see any...any tiny imperfections anywhere...anywhere !...that will bring down the grade. Also check the figure for paint/condition issues, they check that as well.

Thanks for your input guys. I kinda wish AFA wasnt so strict with their grading system. I mean, I have yet to seen a figure with a score of 100. Whats the point of having a 100 point scale if its imposible to achieve it.

Cause 100's would be worthless...and so would everything below it if you saw them out there, 90-95 is extremely hard to come by, its gotta be PERFECT in every way just for 90-95.

Q. Can some one explain what abbreviations like MOC mean. I know some of them but not all, and sometimes i get lost on here.

That's easy...
MOC = Mint On Card, means the FIGURE is mint in a sealed package...it tells you NOTHING about the condition of the package. MOMC = Mint On Mint Card, means the figure is mint(sealed) and the package is also in "mint" or case fresh condition, without any dings, creases, dents....etc. MIB = Mint In Box, same as MOC, toy is mint and comes with a (usually open) box/package...it tells you NOTHING about the condition of the box/package. MIMB = Mint In Mint Box, same as MOMC, toy is mint(sealed) and the box/package is also in "mint" or case fresh condition, without any dings, creases, dents....etc.

MOC = Mint on Card means the figure is probably sealed on the card. I know many people believe this means the card is mint also but that is not the case.
MOMC = Mint on Mint Card, this should mean that the figure and card are BOTH mint NIP/MIP = New or Mint in Package (such as comics or vehicles) and again this is reference to the item and NOT the package. NIMP or MIMP = The same as MOMC, it is supposedly saying that the item AND box are both mint.

I have dealt with people on eBay and here asking me to look over the figure carefully because they want to have it graded and want to make sure it is MOMC where a novice person might think they are getting a gradeable figure when someone says MOC and the card could be badly damaged.
