I agree with the OP on this one. I think that POC is the coolest line of Joes ever released and it sucks that I can't really afford this hobby any longer. I have seen Cobra Shock Troops, Alley Vipers, Jungle Vipers, Fire Fly, Beach Head and both first and thrid versions of POC Snake Eyes and had them in my hand and decided to pass up on them. With the divorce and my income not being what it used to be (I am making about half of what I used to make), this hobby has actually taken a back seat to a lot of things more necessary in day to day living.
I am saving up for one or two Sky strikers though (a guilty pleasure of sorts). I guess what makes it easy is that so far, I have not seen anything (Joe-wise) that I cannot live without.

I really don't understand what's going on in the Joe community lately. I hear lots of people complaining about the cost of buying new Joes. How so? The PoC line has been the most spread out, sparcest line we've had in ages. Compared to the insane onslaught of RoC toys this is a breeze in the park. Depending on where you shop. $80 for wave 1, $60 for wave 2, only $40 each for waves 3 and 4 and now $60 for each of wave 5 & 6. Spread out over 9 - 10 months. That's $34 a month. You can't afford $34 a month??? Add in the comics and we're at another $16, so $50 a month. Vehicles add another $200 over that same 10 month peroid and we're at $70 a month for one of everything. Big deal. That's two bottles of your vodka ;) And this is only if you're a completetist, which depending on ones income may not be an realistic goal.
Now don't get me wrong, I've been in those situations where I was happy I had a buddy to lend me money so I could buy enough Mr.Noodle to make it to the next paycheck, but you can hardly say that if this is the situation that the GI Joe hobby is getting too expensive. In comparison, I'm laying down about $250 - $300 a month to get all the Star Wars stuff I want and that's not even everything they produce, not even close. I mean be honest, is it that teh hobby is too expensive or just your situation. Like Ixz72 above has stated, life sometimes takes a turn for the worse and luxuries like buying toys isn't in the cards. But I don't think blaming the costs of figures and comics is the way to go. If you can't afford anything, it's hardly Hasbro's fault.

Nothing lucky about getting screwed by Hasbro UK and having to pay triple for toys just to get them brought into the country! Someone needs to tell Hasbro UK that we are NOT a bunch of hippy liberals and YES military toys are an integral part of our heritage and NO we don't want Action Man on a skateboard fighting neon clad wrestlers.
Ya know whats really selling here at the moment? HM Armed Forces Toys. Made by Character. Supported by the Ministry of Defence. Absolutely awesome. As for guns... We're British. We've genetically evolved to be ludicrously hench. We don't need guns. I agree, no place for real guns in my life. Baseball bats and pitbulls are good enough for me.

As for price, with all the wasted gas and time hunting for stuff that is non-existent in stores, I probably save money paying almost 2x price for figures online. I have just cut back my army building. |
