I get the sense that lots of fans aren't big fans of this subteam. But let's talk BattleForce 2000 for a sec.
Why the animosity? Is that because you don't like the characters, don't like the vehicles, or specifically don't like the way the vehicles were meant to transform into that base, or something else? Or do lots of fans actually like BF2000? If you could take elements of the BF 2000 concept and redo it to get it right, what would you have done? Or put differently if you were going to create a futuristicky subteam today, let's call it "BattleForce 2020", how would it look? Speaking for myself, I always thought thought characters like Avalanche and Dodger were very cool, and I liked vehicles like the Skysweeper and especially the Dominator, but I could have done without the gimicky transforming element. I had a couple of the figures, but none of the vehicles, as they weren't released in Europe. And on a side note, it was really frustrating being a G.I.Joe fan in Europe, getting the toys a year later than in America, and often missing out on some of cool stuff that was being released in the US. But anyway, back to BF2000, what are your thoughts and memories? |

Battle Force 2000 was the beginning of the suckiness of GI Joe towards the end of the 1980's. That is why they were killed off quickly in the comic (except for that one guy).

I always loved BF 2000 and was always disappointed I couldn't obtain more from their line (like the vehicles). I have Avalanche, Blaster, Knockdown, Dodger, and a year or so later, Dee Jay. I also got the Pulverizer which, at the time, I thought was a cool little tank.
I've never understood the animosity towards them, either, and I think most people don't understand their own animosity either when all they can mutter is "'cuz they sucked and they marked the end of G.I.Joe." That's not really saying much.

I always loved BF2000! It wasn't as weird as Cobra-La so it fit in fine for me. The vehicles should have come with the figures and the vehicles should have had more time in development. They were far from perfect. I would love to see ME versions of BF2000!! They can fight the zombies!!

I never saw the need for them. Why do the Joes, a covert unit, have a sub-team that tests experimental weapons and gear? Why aren't the Joes themselves doing that and why would they be using the experimental gear to begin with?
That being said, Blaster was always one of my favorite figures. Didn't like any of the BF2000 figure designs except for Blaster.

I liked battleforce 2000. I never had any of them, but my friend had all of the figures and a couple of the vehicles.
Dodger looked like Hicks from Aliens to me as a kid and was one of my favorites.

I LOVED BF2000. I had all the figures and vehicles, thanks to my uncle who worked for Hasbro. I liked the gimmick of the base, as I kid my Joes would defend that thing for hours. I also liked the futuristic feel of them, like they were the next gen Joes. I'm working them into the ATR story because I still like them.

I loved BF2000 when I was a kid, and I would love to see ME representations of them. An internet seven pack would be awesome.
I always felt that GI Joe had two missions. One was that they were the military's #1 anti-terrorist team, and #2 they were the test bed for all new technology. That would explain why they have a bunch of different vehicles (instead of a bunch of the same things), and it would also explain the need for a lot of characters that aren't spec ops guys. So guys like Snake Eyes, Low Light, Wetsuit, etc fall into category #1, whereas guys like Cross Country, Wild Card and BF2000 fall into category #2 where they are running some new tech through it's paces. |

I never even got the idea of the special weapons at the time, to me they just looked like garish and overly high-tec dressed soldiers, for which I saw no use.
But, it could have been an interesting sub-unit if only they had expanded upon the modern tech they were using. And what's this about the vehicles combining? I seem to remember seeing this subunit in the Marvel comic in pretty much a single issue and that's it. This combining vehicles thing is news to me. |
