I am a 42-year-old Brit who had never really noticed GI Joe figures before this March when I visited a joint GI Joe/Transformers convention.
Although I was there for the robots, I fell in love with the GI Joe figures and was stunned by the amount of articulation and detail that could be built into a 3-inch figure (the last time I had bought a 3-inch action figure was probably about 1980). Since then I have picked up a few of the ROC movie figures (sorry guys, I actually really enjoyed the film, silly as much of it was) and am waiting for my first POC figures to arrive from the States. So, what do I do next? As a UK based collector I am after advice. Are there UK-centric Joe websites of forums? Where are the best places to shop for Joes in the UK? (I am aware of Kapow Toys and my local TRU had a few ROC figures) How many Brits are there in the hobby? I'm also considering picking up some Action Force figures. Action Man was my favourite toy as a kid, and this seems a realatively cheap, compact way of reliving that. Again, any advice would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance for any help. |

It's not exactly a GI Joe website, but Blood for the Baron is a great, great resource for Action Force stuff (and there's a lot of crossover between Action Force and GI Joe fans and collectors).

How do!
I'm based in N.Ireland - got back into GI Joe around 2000 and been spending money on collecting them ever since The new POC stuff is the best ever but you'll find it hard getting in the UK, unfortunatley. I shop Bigbadtoystore.com or Smalljoes.com mostly for the new Joes but check this site out which is also a great UK based dealer! Welcome to Star Action Figures Hope that helps |

Are you interested in the comic backstory (I'd ignore the cartoon if I were you)?
Certainly I'd read at least some of the Action Force comics online at Blood For The Baron, then move onto reading the US and UK Marvel runs for the overall backstory (that's probably quite a bit of reading, and for the US Marvel stuff you'll need to either find torrents or buy the trade paperbacks - they are worth it though.; the UK Marvel stuff is also online at BftB iirc) Regarding figures, EBay is probably the answer, and specifically the Chinese sellers are far cheaper than the US sellers imho for the modern 25th Anniversary onward figures (despite the earlier waves now apparently being dirt cheap in the US...) If you want to focus on Action Force specifically (i.e. the days of SAS-Force, Z-Force, Q-Force, etc.), I'd personally make some customs as the 25th Anniversary/ROC onward GI Joe figures have vastly better articulation and features than the original figures (but if you do want the originals, again EBay is your best bet.) Last but not least, welcome Edit: Sorry, completely forgot about Star Action Figures - I can also wholeheartedly recommend them for the latest waves |

Modeller's Loft is a great resource store for older stuff, I don't know how his new stuff is stocked though.
Honestly, post your wants and see if people will trade for some of the things AF and AM related. You are a great resource for Joe collectors, farm that out here and on other Joe sites and you can trade for what you want. |

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Next question: Is there much in the way of GI Joe shows or cons in the UK? |

Hey mate, welcome to the site, theres not a lot that iv heard of,i think the TF/JOE show you went to is the only one (i may be wrong tho)but theres definately a pretty strong contingent of uk based joe fans on here, you could check out the action force group, there are some great guys on there!!! As for figures,id say definately the chinese sellers, WS_toys is a great one,as is thecrowgirl and viperkingdom. There is a lot of love on here from non british fans for the old AF figures so get yourself a Buy/Sell/Trade list up, if you have old AF figures you wanna trade for newer stuff, then you're in the right place!!

Hi mate
Welcome to the site. Im quite new here too and find it a great help. I started collecting again in 2006 after a fifteen year break. I tried a few GI Joe forums when I needed help a few months ago. This seemed the best, as people are much more willing help and Ive stuck with them ever since. I only really collect the old stuff, AF and GI Joe. But will buy something new if its interesting. One of the first things I wanted to know was, is there a UK Joecon but the closest to one, is the one you went. Theres not many shops for the vintage figures in the UK. I get most of mine on ebay, car boot sales and the Barry Potter Toy Fairs.Toy Fairs in the UK by Barry Potter Fairs As I live in the North West Midlands I go to stafford, NEC and Trafford Centre. |

Oi oi! If you know about Kapow toys, then you might be interested to know that Kapow has a new chat forum which has a small but growing Joe following.
Full Metal Hero We're talking the talk at the moment and seeing what's available to us, but the hope is (at the very least my hope!) is that we can get something Joe related off the ground.
