hey folks,
some of you already know i've been working on a GI Joe fan film since last fall (which i'm documenting in another thread - see signature) i started this new thread to get some fan input on something. I am planning to show some type of glimpse of Snake Eyes' face at some point. at this time i'd like to keep the context a secret, but i'd like to hear some fan input on how you all envision it'd look like. My Joe universe is very much based on the 1980s comics and from there we know that his face was disfigured in a helicopter crash as he tried to save Scarlett who was stuck in the chopper. I recall the details being that in the aftermath, his jaw moved up and down but no voice came out. They never showed a drawing of his face after that- just bandages. So what do you think he'd look like? After an explosion to the face? Does anyone know if his face was further explored in the fiction after the 80s comics? I would think that both his eyes and ears would be intact because he's still the most effective soldier.

Man I just watched your trailer and I gotta say they should have got you to direct Roc. As for SE's face I like the comic look.

poor old snake eyes, his face has gone through as much cosmetic surgery as Joan Rivers, Cher and Latoya Jackson combined.
so depending on when we are talking is what look would fit. a brief history early in the comics he was still taking treatments in a tank at a university, Doc almost got shot for trying to take his mask off in issue 11. A Cobra goon attacked SE and Scar on a ferry, ripped off his rubber mask and was horrified. Scar had a spare in her bag. Then the same cosmetic surgeon who fixed up the Baroness, Dr Hundtkinder, fixed him up completely, it did not last long however as Dr Hundtkinder betrayed his patient to the Baroness who along with the Payne brothers re-disfigured him in his escape attempt in which he got a face full of fire. All of these disfigurements involved fire so I imagine that there are burn scars and perhaps a few other types of scars, skin grafts, partially healed skin etc. It all depends on the era. in the movie he has taken a "vow of silence" so he may not be disfigured at all. In Renegades Zartan takes off his mask as he likes to take trophies, when he sees what is underneath he hands him back the mask and says "you need this more than I do" also who knows what kind of battle scars he has acquired over the years. I would say definitely some burn scars but dont make him look like Freddy Krueger either, a nice balance of war wounds and burns. No hair ( he is military so a clean shaven head would make sense) maybe a nice scar on the skull. Blonde, blue eyes, but not horror movie gruesome IE puss, destroyed eye, bloody, stringy flesh. Personally I would keep the mystery and show him from behind in sillhouette and use the actors reaction (if any) and leave the rest to the audiences imagination. however now I am scriptwriting not costume/makeup designing. tastefully gruesome yet pitiful and sorrowful is what i would shoot for.

The most effective SE demasking I ever saw was in European Missions. Check out pages 5 and 6: WAR CORRESPONDENCE From behind they've really made SE look like a monster. It isn't just his face that's been disfigured, it's his whole head. |

I always imagined it similar to the burned half of Aaron Eckhardt's face in "The Dark Knight"...only the entire face.
Basically a nightmare skull.

I thought Renegades did an amazing job handling the issue with the above mentioned Zartan scene.
