Well, I do collect mainly Joes.
But also delve into other lines too, mostly older ones like Big Jim, or just vintage toys in general. When I'm not hunting, collecting, or customizing Joes. I work. and I go to school. If the weather's nice, I'll take my dog to the park and socialize with the other parents while she runs around and burns up energy. On occasion, I'll invite a girl over and we'll hang out and watch movies. or other stuff....you know... I usually dont tell girls about my collection until after a few dates though. Some of them think its strange.

It's all about scheduling.
Schedule some "me" time throughout the week. Everyone needs a release of some kind.

It's my primary hobby, but it's just a hobby...
I have OCD, so everything i do, i take it a step too far. You just have to recognize it and try to establish boundaries... And if that doesn't work, dump her and find a girl that doesn't ride your ass abiut something you obviously enjoy so much. I learned from watching Jerry Springer that there are plenty of damaged women out there, at least one of them should be willing to put up with you... Hahaha nah man my wife is awesome she goes on hunts shoots me ideas on what to make as far as customs .. she loves COD Black ops, collects Star wars .. thing is I know my time with her is more important as with the kids ... But this is tough being a full time dad n husband above all else im going through a custody battle .. so i guess you can say i have my hands full .. but somehow found just a tiny bit of time to do little projects and go hunting here n there .... But my social life and "graffiti" career has come to an abrupt halt! Just the other day i went to the shooting range with some of my buddies n had a few drinks (not at the same time) then reality hit me .. I spend waaaayy too much time worrying about toys when i should be doing something a bit more productive ..then again is it not productive if its an outlet? Dont get me wrong I love toys but hate that 80% of my day i spend on here or lurking the internet for the latest in joe news "HI MY NAME IS COLORS I HAVE A COLLECTING PROBLEM IM ADDICTED TO LITtLE PASTIC MEN!...........NO HOMO! Well it's not always easy. Having a good life IMO is about balancing mutiple things, while at the same time focusing a little extra on what means most to you. Friendships, relationships, kids, getting laid (or trying to), hobbies, working out and staying healthy, work, career, spending time with and taking care of family... Now you can't have a lot of everything. You can probably have abit of everything, but most people end of spending more time on some things than others.
I'm single with no kids, and have a low stress job, with plenty of time for my hobbies, which include building Lego, listening to rock n roll and seeing live music, reading comics and following geeky things online. I also like to cook and read history. With all that said, my hobbies usually take a back seat to social activities, whether I'm hanging out ith friends, at a party, on a date with someone I just met, or whatever. People are important. Of course the wonderful thing about the internet is that it has turned geeky hobbies into social activities. Hanging out on this website is both hobby oriented and social. When I had a gf, we would keep a decent balance - you need alone time as well as together time. Sometimes I'd be building some Lego thing while she was reading or watching TV. IMO if a couple is sitting together watching some movie, TV show, or sports event, or whatever that only one of them really wants to see, that's less healthy than each of them doing something on their own and enjoying their alone time. Do what makes you happy, but try not to get into a rut where only one or two things make you happy. Anything taken to excess become unhealthy eventually. Joes are fun, but they shouldn't become your life. No one thing should become your life. |

Joes is just a small part of my hobby interests, but it represents the best time as a kid. No taxes, bills and far less responsibilities of today. I just take a glance at some choice pieces and my mind is teleported back to that time if just for a little while. When I'm not "reminiscing" I love being outside. Kayaking, downhill on my Kona, Jeeping, camping, hiking, gun collecting, shooting, bowhunting, archery, geocaching and raising two kids and a giant dog (St.Bernard, Newfoundland). My fiance is very understanding of all of my hobbies and knows that they are a part of who I am. There are times when I have to put aside my desires and do whats best for the family but there always comes a time when I get to relax and get some valuable "me" time.

Aside from Joe collecting and customizing, in my spare time I DJ, produce electronic music, play video games, go bike riding, go to the gym and regularly frequent my favorite bars. I do feel like the Joe hobby has been consuming me with all the awesome POC stuff coming out and all the commission work I've been doing. I've stopped cracking out customs left and right and have been taking my time on the same custom for over a month. Once I finish these last few commissions, I'm retiring from making castings for commission all together. People are just way too demanding and it takes the fun out of the hobby and takes time from the rest of my life.

It's just a VERY IMPORTANT hobby for me, my Joe time is mostly at night after the day has wound down and the rest of the fam is getting ready for bed, I'll just chill in the man cave and watch movies and tinker with my Joes! Most of the regular life consists of going to the gym, playing a shit ton of basketball and of course some BMX riding/jumping!

Collecting is actually an escape from everything else I do..it's quiet time for me.
I'm a vocalist in a band, go to the gym M-F and sometimes twice a day...I'll do A.M. cardio before work, then go back at 5 pm for weights. Friday night is Band practice. Saturday mornings I either go to the gym, or do a martial arts class with a few of my old class mates. I love football and play touch in a summer league. Last 3 weekends I had 3 different dates...and on the way to one of them I stopped at Target and got a Clone Trooper I keep busy as hell...my collecting, my displays are my quiet time. This is where I come to unwind, take a breathe and escape. |
