Why not a collector's line for GI Joe? Star Wars is getting one. $150, at that.
Why can't Hasbro create a collector's line for Joes? Make some bigger vehicles and playsets. Create some new ones too, that would be awesome.

Well, I think I know what you're saying...
But since we did just finish the 25th line and will continue to see "Modern" updates of classic stuff, we are getting a collectors line. Star Wars just has a [much] larger fan base to milk money out of so Hasbro throws a majority of its effort there. Last edited by Hicks_Royel; 06-06-2008 at 06:05 AM.. |

What about a collectors line with retro style packaging with protective cases.

The current action figure line, with the smaller vehicles thrown in, wasn't what I had in mind when I created the thread. I meant more along the lines of larger scale items. Or vehicles with more detail. And while Star Wars most likely has a larger fan base, how many of the younger fans are going to go out and buy a $150 Millenium Falcon? It will probably be the adults doing that. And if we're talking about adult fans, I'm not so sure Star Wars has that much more of a substantial adult fan base than Joes, that it would grant them a collector's line with expensive items. That's just my opinion, though, and how I look at it. I don't really know what the numbers are.

i'm sure Star Wars does indeed have a larger fan base than Joe, but judging by what i've seen at retail, the modern line isn't selling as well. with very few exceptions, 25A figs are bought nearly as soon as they hit the shelves, while Star Wars figs (especially certain ones) are hanging on the pegs for months. granted, Star Wars always has a larger section of the aisle devoted to it, and accordingly more figures there, but i think if Joes had the same space to fill, they'd still get gobbled up quickly.
not really sure how relevant this is to the thread, but i thought i'd chip in. |

Star Wars has been in full force for nearly 15 years. I was there and seen it but got bored. Funny Story: In 1983/4 GI Joe made me stop buying Kenner Star Wars figures. In 2007, GI Joe's 25th annv collection made me stop buying Hasbro Star Wars figures. The only figures I'm buying our the Joes.
Now, I thought the 25th Annv. line was a Collector's Line. I find more adults and collectors snagging up the figures more than the kids. And it's true, usually the Joe pegs are empty while the SW ones are full of last years "who cares" figures. Hasbro has stated that supply has not been upto demand. They have consistently increased production to meet demand and plan to do it again in the fall. Also, I heard bigger and more vehicles are headed our way--Rattler, etc. Maybe Hasbro is just monitoring the market and you never know, in 15 years maybe this line will be bigger than Star Wars, just like the 1980s. |

We are getting new vehicles for the movie next year, if sales do well this and next year, its likely we will get all the yum yums. I expect bigger vehicles, but nothing like the FLAGG, which is still much bigger than the upcoming millenium falcon. |
