What are the rarest Joes of the 80's? I recently bought a MOSC Listen 'n Fun Tripwire just so I could have at least one "rare" piece in my collection (and more importantly, because I like it). Perhaps you could reply with a list of your "Top 10 Rarest" or something similar, and from all of the responses we could come to some sort of concensus as to which pieces are most rare. I am not counting all of the crazy space and environment themed stuff from the early 90's. I'm just interested in knowing the rarity of 1980's stuff (ending sometime around the Slaughter's Marauders era).

That listen n fun Trip Wire is one that I've wanted for awhile now, nice score man.
I don't know what is considered the rarest of the 80's figures but the rarest/harder to find figures I have from the 80's are silver pads Grand Slam and a Cobra Viper Pilot with most of his emblem still intact. I know Cobra Commander with the Mickey Mouse Cobra symbol is rare. Good idea for a thread, I'm looking forward to some of the lists that are going to pop up. |

I dont know about rare but I still need hardtop and payload from 87 and listen n fun tripwire.
I can probably get the hardtop and payload but i dont want to pay the money for them. I have almost all of the figs from 82-87. Just missing a few.

If you're talking loose, there are no rare figures from the vintage line that were released to retail. Some are harder to find than others, but every released figure is easily attainable with just a few weeks of effort. (Assuming you have the money, of course.) Carded is a different story as certain carded figures are much rarer than others.
If you're talking the rarest Joe figures, international figs and unreleased stuff dominates that list. But, for production figures, nothing really qualifies as rare. (At least, that was released in the US during the vintage years. ;))

Rumbler from the R/C crossfire is a tough grab. This item was overlooked by many people in 87 and a loose complete figure will cost a few bucks.

The ones I found tough to get - complete with accessories, in no particular order:
1. "Superhero" 2. Viper Pilot 3. Starduster (either version) 4. Gold Head Steel Brigade 5. "Mickey Mouse" SA Cobra Cmdr 6. Dolphin (Action Force) 7. Moondancer (Action Force) 8. UK Tiger Force 9. Tiger Force Skystriker 10. Ninja Viper I'm sure milage varies from person to person, but these were the ones that I never encountered regulary, and in some cases, only once. There are plenty that would be considered rare if looking to complete with accessories (Lift Ticket with Mic for ex.) the Gold Head Steel Brigade shows up from time to time, but it's the one I haven't acquired yet just because its too out of my price range. |

Just US in my list as the UK stuff is pretty rare (Or at least expensive)
Starduster Gold Head Steel Brigade Mickey Mouse Cobra Commander Rumbler Techno Viper V2 I'm sure there's more, but that's off the top of my head. So far the only one I haven't gotten is the Techno Viper V2. I 've only seen it twice, once in a friend's house (He was selling it to someone else) and once on ebay Like Mike T said, there are more packaged figures that are rare because of that. Take for instance, Zap. Sure he's pretty easy to come by, even the straight arm version can be had easily, but try finding one from the JC Penney's 3 pack set still sealed |
