Has anyone noticed a difference between the customer service at Wal-Mart and Target. Don't want to offend any Target employees, but as a whole the store seems to be as unfriendly to customers as possible. For example: the scanner guns that managers carry around-if you hunt enough you know that these are the key, anytime I see anyone at Wal-Mart with one and ask them for help they are happy to take a second to scan the item and let me know if they have more in back or on the way (even if they don't work in the Toy Dept.). At Target I am pretty sure they have been threatened with termination if they help a customer. I have on several occasions seen a Target employee on the Joe isle with a scanner gun, and asked for some help and they always give the same reply, "we have no idea". I asked the other day if the lady could please scan the item to see when more might be available, and she basically refused. She looked at me like I was crazy, hid the scanner behind her back, and said we have no way of knowing what comes in on the trucks. I thought that was as ridiculous a statement as I have ever heard- willy nilly retail - you just send it to us and we sell it, no ordering, no keeping track of inventory? I guess that is why I can purchase and army build 50 of each Prince Caspian figure, but have not seen a Joe in a month at Target. When wave 7 came out I was in Texas for a work training session. I stopped in a Wal-Mart and the lady scanned the Joes and told me she had a case coming in that night, I returned around 11:00pm and inquired, and the girl working said "if the Manager said it was coming in it should be here" then proceeded to get another stocker to help pull stuff off the pallets until they found it for me, at Target I have never been treated with that kind of courtesy or as a customer felt served in anyway.

dood at the wal marts here in san leandro california and the one in union city..
its exactly the opposite I feel your pain though.. (well not really) since i dont shop in the store. But I sure would be upset if i had to go through with that stuff so I can "empathize" I would suggest calling 'corporate' tell them that several times you have went into the store.. ect and this is your experience. write a detailed letter with dates and what have you tell them the store # time of day and number of stores you were shopping it It will get results... but don't rant or act like a PUD.. Just do a little bit of whining (don't drown them with your tears) but a few well placed sobs will work wonders |

if your in Target and want to know if they have any in the back don't even bother an employee to start wtih. Go to the little red bar code scanners they have all over the place and type in these numbers
single pack joes 087-06-0021 comic pack joes 087-06-0336 if there are any in the back it will show up on the screen. If it says that there are some then go to the employees and tell them what you are looking for. Give them that number and tell them that it says there are some in the back. Then they will help you. That is what has worked for me. |

I always had good experiences at Target. It is the Wally people who seemed like they didn't want to be there. Regardless, it is a thankless job, so I always try to be cool with both.

you know if you live in this area then you don't get a lot of good service at all. It isn't if you go to one place over another it's just this is the single most lazy area in the US.

I have been noticing at Target, They can't even look me in the eye and say hi to me at the check out stands. I have been in a few instances where the checker didn't even speak untill I stood there waiting for her to initiate some sort of interaction, This after all of my stuff is checked and bagged and she is waiting on me to pay.
Since Target has zero Joe stuff for me to buy, I have no problem paying for the merch and then promptly taking it all to the customer service desk and returning it. When they ask why, I say "I am a Human Being and at least deserve to have the checker verbally speak the total I owe, If not a greeting and thanks for shopping." The Management usually gives the deer in the headlights look, and refunds my Money. Mind you all I have said to any employee at this point was the request to return and the reason why. |

I'm sure everyone has their fair share of bad days and the staff probably just want to complete their shift and go home.
Then again, I strongly feel its also your overall impression that the staff gets the vibe about you. How you approach the staff may have an adverse effect too. Walmart has a door greeter and I get greeted the majority of the time. At Target, I get acknowledge by the staff and occasionally I get asked if there was something in particular that I was looking for. |

I haven't had too many problems at either place. Friendliness is always hit or miss at checkout lanes, but that can be the same anywhere. As for asking for help, the few times I have usually go smoothly enough. I generally avoid bothering employees to ask for stock - it's not worth it to me. Even so, there have been some occasions.
At Target, I've had employees tell me they have nothing in the back nicely enough. When the exclusives came out, I used the scanner and asked for them. The woman I asked was very nice and spent some time looking for them and getting a case for me. At Wal-Mart the toy section managers (if that's their title) have been very nice, even checking scanners. I did have one older gentleman yell at me when I tried to open a case of comic packs, but since then I just avoid him (he doesn't work in the toy section, but he is in view of it at the fishing equipment or something).

So you buy your stuff then go to customer sevice and return it??? All because they wont say hello to you??? and what point does this make? That you stood in line only to stand in another line to return what you just bought? I could honestly care less what they say to me.....Im not there to make friends with them cashiers.......if it keeps happening and it hurts your feelings....dont go there.....maybe you dont know how they feel.....A manager barking down their throats for not selling more Credit Cards then Susie......A customer bitching at them because they are having a bad day.........My GF works for Walmart and its not all you think its cracked up to be........so for all cashiers in the future heres a "Hello" and "have a nice day to ya"......."Now you come back and see us soon"....better???
