I think they would be foolish to 'not' listen to their fan base.
I think they would be bigger fools to kill anything because of a 'few' nay-sayers. Double that if their only resource is hisstank.com. As devoted as a lot of us are, and I admit i'm one of the smaller collectors, we would love to know our voices are heard, but hisstank really only represents what? 2000-3000 active collectors? I doubt it's just 'us' that keep the GI JOE line alive. Just doesn't add up. Say $300/yr per person on 'average.' At most, $900,000. But let's jump up to a million. For Hasbro, how many are on payroll in creative? Development? HR? PR? Marketing? Management? Distribution? Sales? Sales to vendors? Events planning? Not to mention production costs and even utilities for offices and warehouses. Security even. Just take three of those question marks and you have upward of $500,000. What does the President or Vice President of this line bring in? Betcha it's at least $100,000 a year. Personally I would love to see the numbers of 'collectors' vs average/children toy purchases. And would love to see how they product test ideas of figures.

In a perfect world, collectors on these forums would be an easy go to as a focus group for Hasbro to bounce ideas off of.
But we are not a reliable source of consumer data since, In reality, every inch Hasbro gives us in the form great stuff like all that was shown on Saturday, we will always try to take a mile in the form of a FLAGG or TD remake. And when I say We, I don't mean We as individual collectors, I mean We as a faceless focus group of adult collectors. Last edited by txbart; 04-03-2011 at 10:43 AM.. |

I know this is going to be controversial, but I have been having this conversation with some Joe collectors who choose other Joe websites over The Tank. If(that is taking the posters at their word, cause in reality I don't really know anything for sure) some Tankers are so "connected" to Hasbro, "the industry", and so forth; is it possible that so many items get canceled because the post on The Tank just rip them apart? I don't think one influence has enough power to green light or red light any single project. One must think that here we are again looking at cool stuff we want, and deep down we know that we won't see half of it again. Yes, there are other factors. 1)economy 2)they seem to be using old parts to make new frankenjoes 3) some will say that the movie sucked and it killed everything(lol they always go there). If HissTank is so powerful of an influence then could the negative things written by the tanker's actually spell the doom for some products?
This could be good or bad. Good, that they do listen to us. Bad, that if a few guys get on a roll they may kill a great Joe for sport? I am not sure where I sit on this issue. I want to hear from you guys. I just want all the products and I can't find anything in the wild. That was half the fun. We are not THAT big of an influence |

i would say retail stores over power the hisstank. money is what talks not a bunch of words on a forum

other joe websites? why? we have the tank.
really, though, if they're listening to the tank i'm all for it. i certainly do not always agree w/ the popular opinions here, but a change to a figure here and there or a figure not making the cut is not going to adversely affect the brand. or every time you leave a comment there always seems to be someone there to correct you or burn you up.

Actually, I think Hasbro listens to its fans based on this JoeCon. The Hisstank community has clamored for Sci-Fi, Lifeline and Airtight for a long time and now we have them. Do you think that was b/c 11 year old boys in Wichita, KS were calling for characters made in the mid 1980s or us?
I think we would all like more and new product as collectors, but GIJoe is not Hasbro's only property, so there are constraints. |

I think we are an ifluence. Probably not the biggest voice but the proof is in the latest figures shown this weekend. They are listening.
Now if only they'd hear us when we complain that we can't actually get any of the figures without constant road trips and online shopping. |

Adults collect toys.
Toys are made to be played with. Children play with toys. Toys are made to be played with. The sales are needed from the playability of the toy, not the collectability of the toy. Hasbro rep confirms that we have a voice (changing Croc Master to python patrol and Blowtorch to green) after hearing OUR complaints. We have a voice but we are not the majority of the buyers... unless it's for our kids so that they can play with them.
