Any idea why they got dropped as a faction? Everyone seemed to really like them. Also any idea why Hasbro created them in the first place was Destro more popular than CC with the kids or something?
Been wonderin. |

Same here!
Destro's Elite will always play a major role in my Joeverse. Although not exactly traditional, I'm glad Hasbro included Iron Grenadiers in the POC line up. Hopefully that opens the door for including more IG characters like Voltar, Darklon, and others! |

The IG faction came out at the same time as Battle Force: 2000 in 1988/89. I'm sure Hasbro wanted them to be the perfect foil for the BF 2000 team as both sides had really (then) high tech weaponry and vehicles.
From a marketing perspective it was brilliant - Destro 'dreaming the dreams Cobra Commander once dreamed' or something like that on his then 1988 filecard...Sounds like Destro had become slightly unhinged, a danger to the Joes and its intriguing as CC is mentioned in the past tense - like hes long since dead... The Joe line then was at its zenith - it was so vast it could afford to come up with newer factions and if you think about it back then Cobra had been around since 1982, things needed livening up. A new 'evil enemy' was just the ticket.... Interestingly, here in the UK and Europe, when we got the IG stuff the packaging still marked it as 'COBRA ENEMY' even though all the toys, stickers etc matched the US release 100%. I only learnt about the I.G.'s and BF: 2000 from the comics and Joe collector sites later on. |

Mostly I believe its a way to 'not confuze the children'
Much like how Ripcord in the AOCI 7-packs had to be called Altitude, and we STILL don't have a classic covergirl. Adding another faction, The Iron Grenediers (or Red Shadows, Drednoks, etc) will 'confuze the new fans!!!" according to Hasbro. |

I don't remember IG Destro's filecard, but I always took the Iron Grenadiers as "Well...at this point Cobra Commander is obviously too stupid to do any good...I think I'll form my own army"
