The new POC version is awesome but needs a sword! Wouldn't mind a modernized Spy Troops version.

I thought the IG was Destro/MARS contact points and arms dealers around the world, then when Destro and CC had their falling out, he consolidated them into his own army.
As for D being unhinged, I don't think that was the case. He had always sided with Cobra's ideals and schemes, but CC was just an ineffectual leader, and instead of wasting time and money to try to wrestle leadership, he just blatantly started his own army using the people he already trusted and had in place. Then he used some of the Cobra philosphy and seperated the army into stylised troopers like Cobra, just better equipped. Iggy troopers are basically Blueshirts or Infantry Vipers, Annihilators were IGgy versions of Crimson Guard, so on and so forth with the rest of the Iggys (TARGATS and Undertows were always a fave alongside the Annihilators) What confuses me though is a LOT points to Scrap Iron being a part of MARS/IG, but he's always been sided with Cobra, and then they brought in Metal Head... So what's the bottom line? Is Scrap Iron Cobra? MARS? or just a merc?

Yeah I think the original idea was expand the line...which makes perfect sense in 88...the problem was from there the line started to decline and instead of many divisions they just refolded into two recognizable brands Joe vs Cobra.
Personally I think the ideas of new factions and personal armies only adds depth to the Joeverse but I understand the need to keep the brand at easy and recognizable levels for the casual fan or new fans. It tends to make people feel that to jump into a universe is too daunting of a task...its why all these comic books and movies keep getting rebooted...my opinion is that's BS properties have long rich histories, and when I jumped onboard say the X-Men books way back in the X-Cutioners Song story line I had to learn about characters by either reading or collecting back issues. I get why they try to keep it simple I just don't agree that simple is better than a rich history...I mean should we in the United States just not learn about the history preceeding the founding of the States, just to keep it more simple? See stated that way it just sounds stupid. |
