That figure came out 10 years before the Regiment changed the beret color to tan. Other than Lt. Falcon V1, I wouldn't put too much credibility in ARAH beret colors. Remember most of the figures had their design and backstory come from two different sources e.g. Low-Light designed as a Navy SEAL, but produced as an Army marksman. We also know sometimes designs weren't fully executed due to cost like no paint apps on V1 Snake Eyes or Stalker V1 missing the camo on his beret.

Like I said before, I would not take any uniform items worn by any character as a way to determine anything about them other than fashion choice. It is clear that Joe are not big on uniformity, which is good since it gives us different characters that look vastly different rather than 20 figures a year in the same multi-cams, BDUs, DCUs, ACUs, etc... with the differences being minor like head sculpts, weapon selections and "shooter's preference" on what pouches are worn where.

I can't believe I missed this thread from 4 years ago.
A really awesome topic!!! Especially the vast but detailed points of view of all US DOD SPECOPS forces. IMHO, usually when we think of SPECOPS we tend to focus on SEALS, Rangers & Army SOF (Green Berets) & that's about it. On rare occasion is USMC Force Recon mentioned, USAF SPECOPS is hardly ever mentioned & SWCC just came to light a few years back. As a retired USN Weather Forecaster who's Airborne qualified I can relate primarily to the Combat Weatherman aspect. Which is virtually NEVER mentioned in the realm of SPECOPS! Let alone a host of other DOD SPECOPS units. During my Naval career, I was fortunate to be stationed at a SPECOPS command & was able to see most of the previously mentioned units in action. G.I. JOE always did fall short representing all SPECOPS units. But I've always understood it was billed as a joint SPECOPS unit. It's really good to see an in-depth discussion on this topic.

let's be honest though, what 8 year old kid in the 80s (or today) is going to give a flying monkey's about a goddamn weatherman?
JTAC, yeah, sure, if the figure has a file-card explaining their role calling in close-air support. a swick, sure when they know that's the guy with the cool as RHIB delivering the SEAL team on the beach. Rangers, Marines, ASOF, Delta, SEALs, sure, semper fi, all the way hoo-ah and all that jazz. Heck, a kid today might even admit to thinking ISA are badass homies, with all that undercover covert ops CIA guff. a weatherman? no. way. I mean, I thought Psyche Out was stupid, as a kid. And even today, I don't rate him that much, even though I recognise PsyOps is important. but a weatherman?! |

Two words... Weather Dominator...
If Hasbro could make an entire cartoon mini-series totally based on 'weather gone mad', as quoted by Destro. I'm sure they could have created a Combat WX-man just for that roll. It could have been a limited edition flag-point mail-order figure that didn't have to be mass produced like the regular store figures. Of course he would've come with an M4, laptop & PMQ-3 (Wind Anemometer), yes there is such a thing. And yes you can call me a WX-Geek or WX-nerd because I am truly proud to be one & to have serve my country in this capacity. Quote:
