Hello,
I am new to the forum and this is my first post. After recently going thru some of my old toys that have been stored, I've gotten excited about getting back into the collectible side of the GI Joe 80's era from when I was a kid. One of my first questions is what are some of the most sought after 80's era Joe collectibles? From figures to vehicles, accessories to bases? Also, if there is any reading (and I have started to do alot on this board) or specific books that anyone can recommend, that would be great as well and if there is anything specific to look out for when purchasing the Joe collectibles as well. I can already tell this is a great forum with alot of helpful info, Thanks in advance, it is greatly appreciated. |

Well, there's "sought-after" and "expensive".
Obviously there are enough collectors with money looking for the rare stuff, such as: The Argentinian second series ("Argen 6") - Glenda, Redmack, Topson, Shimik, Manleh and Cobra Mortal. Cobra Invasor is also sometimes added to this list. In decent shape, these would go for $500+ White Cobra Mortal - actually a Venezuelan figure, even harder to find than the Argentinian stuff. I think there's only a few in collections... Not even sure what the price is. Pimp Daddy Destro - difficult to say, as the price varies widely from sale to sale, and there aren't many sales in the first place - anywhere from $1000-3000 loose Cobra all-black Consumers Distributing exclusive MOBAT Cobra MSV (all-black VAMP and MMS) Brazilian red Water Moccasin Brazilian Python Patrol Swampfire Mint Cobra Missile Command Base - cardboard pieces mean most didn't stay in mint shape Mint Cobra Viper Glider or GI Joe Glider - ditto The larger Night Force vehicles (WHALE, Skystriker, Moray - can't remember the Night Force names, but you know what I mean) - very hard to find in mint/complete condition, or MIB/MISB This is all very high end, and difficult to acquire. So difficult, I would say, that it's not as "sought after" as other stuff, simply because it's so expensive that it's only available to certain collectors! ... Stuff is more available to more collectors, so it's a bit more "sought after": USS Flagg Defiant Sears exclusives - especially the Dreadnok vehicles Blue SNAKE Armor Heavy Metal mint/complete (mic is the hardest but even the gun is hard to find in mint condition) Gold head Steel Brigade Viper Pilot with a mint (or even decent) chest sigil Mickey Mouse Cobra Commander Starduster (any version) Silver pads Grand Slam Hardtop with gun & mic Euro Tiger Force figures, especially Blizzard and Outback Brazilian Tiger Force figures - Ar Puro (Airtight), Marujo (Shipwreck) and Felino (Dusty) Brazilian Cobra de Aco Brazilian Cobra Invasor - supposedly much easier to find than the Argentinian version Euro "Action Force" figures (Red Laser, Stalker, Quarrel, etc) Euro exclusive Spirit, Mutt figures Any Night Force figures, especially Shockwave for some reason (well, he is a great figure) 2002 Convention figure set - the real value of this set is when you've got the whole thing, plus the box and whatever came with it, though the figures themselves command pretty respectible prices as well ... And some stuff that's a LOT more common, but still very sought after: V2 Snake Eyes - mint/complete V1 Storm Shadow - white/mint/complete V1 Firefly - mint/complete All original straight-arm and swivel arm figures from '82/'83 AVACs Crimson Guards BATs Last edited by DPrime; 05-25-2008 at 01:16 PM.. |

Ugh, I keep adding things I've forgotten to the above list... Did I miss anything else?
There's some other stuff that's sort of "rare" but not in really high demand... LNF Tripwire is supposedly rare but not that expensive or that hard to get (ie: not in real high demand), same with figures like Rampage, Rumbler... I've read that the mail-away tan VAMP is really rare and hard to get, but I got a really super-mint one for about $35, and I've seen it quite a few times... |
