G.I. JOE: Heroes & Terrorists

On April 24, 2031, over two hundred terrorist attacks occurred simultaneously across the globe, including assassination attempts of major world leaders, bombings, gas attacks, and rampant destruction.

In the end, the global death toll was been estimated to be between 20 and 25 million individuals. Few of the responsible parties were ever seen, and those terrorists who did not escape were either killed in the ensuing firefights or took their own lives. No identification, criminal or dental records could be found for any of those bodies recovered. The only identifying mark common to all was a small tattoo of a stylized snake head behind their left ear.

With the world still reeling from a succession of depressions, pandemics, and war, intelligence agencies worldwide struggled to piece together what had happened. An emergency meeting of the United Nations resolved to take action to prevent any further catastrophe, and voted to establish an elite special missions group under the command of the Security Council. The actions of this group would be kept top secret even from member nations to ensure operational security.

This group would have the authority to act within any nation's sovereign territory to ensure world peace and human rights. They would not be subject to national or international law in their activities, and reported only to the Security Council.

Their sole priority was to track down and destroy the group responsible for the April 24, 2031 terrorist attacks, now known as Black Thursday.

Thus was born UN Special Task Force 1, Code Name: G.I. Joe, comprised of brave men and women from around the globe.
