"I want that bus wired to detonate if anyone tries to open it," Zartan said to Zarana. He turned to the others. "We need bikes for Zarana and Zanya. I'm sure the local police are feeling charitable. Acquire two of their rides."
"Too bad Monkeywrench isn't here to give auntie some demo tips," Zanya snapped. Zarana scowled at Zanya, who had already turned her back. Torch, Buzzer and Ripper howled at the sky and mounted their bikes, Zanya and Zandar climbing behind Buzzer and Torch. They roared off into town while Zarana set to work on securing anything worth keeping from the bus before wiring it with explosives, muttering "self-important little . . . Monkeywrench . . . amateur . . . one day wake up with a bomb under your bed." She paused at the sound of voices, looking over her shoulder to see Zartan in deep conversation with . . . himself. He seemed animated enough, but there was no one there. She tested the wires she'd set and locked the bus door, keeping a wary eye on her brother. He nodded a couple of times, and then sat in meditation. The dark sky above the building was lit with an orange glow, followed a couple of seconds later by a series of muffled explosions. A few minutes later, the bikers returned, with Zanya and Zandar astride stolen police Harleys. Zandar patted his and walked over to his sister, giving her a quick hug. Ripper kicked up the stench of burned rubber turning donuts in the lot. "It rides great. The pig did a good job breaking it in," he whispered, before swinging his leg over his own bike. Zartan held up his hand and quiet fell. "On this ride we only hunt prey that is armed. If it isn't carrying gun, we don't eat it. Head for Highway 61." Engines roared and the Dreadnoks peeled out. __ Budo lowered his binos and picked up his radio. "You getting this?" he whispered. "Mmhmm," muttered Scarlett, checking feed from a camera covering the bus while dialing a number on a secure phone. "Dee Jay, it's Scarlett. First, shut down your fan club. Second, get EOD and a search team out here to scrub this bus. Third, what surveillance can you get in the air to cover this area to highway 61?" "Well," said Dee Jay, motioning to Freestyle, "as it happens I can probably get a Night Boomer over to you within . . ." Freestyle checked the map and ran some calculations in her head. "Normally that would be two hours, but this sounds important, so for you, ninety minutes," she said, already heading out of the ops centre. "Ok, we're going to tail these targets until the Night Boomer picks them up, at which time we'll try to get ahead of them to cut them off at their destination." She hung up and dialed another number. "Get your gear. We have work to do." |

So . . . [not story] . . . this is where I've hit a bit of a creative wall. The Cold Slither bit was getting a bit repetitive (they can only play so many dives and eat so many bikers before the point has been made and becomes stale). I had a couple of zigs and zags that didn't really work out, so I'm not sure I'm going to bring this one to conclusion, though if anyone has any suggestions I'm open to experimenting with them.
