“Uhh, Colonel?” Rock-n-Roll asked, as the group all headed towards the Pit’s hangar. “Not to question you, sir, but you’re not thinking about sending us in without proper ammo again, are you?” “Yea, Colonel,” Zap agreed, “If you want us to attack an entire town consisting of soldiers who hate us, we’re gonna need some heavier ordinance.” “Gentlemen,” Hawk began, as they walked into the hangar, “Meet your heavier ordinance.” The team stopped in the large doorway as they laid eyes on several vehicles, and other various objects. “Um, Colonel Hawk, sir?” Steeler began in a quivering voice, as if he were watching a beautiful woman undressing for the first time, “What’s that right there?” “That’s the M.O.B.A.T.,” Hawk replied proudly, as they all looked at the olive green tank that was being prepped for loading on board a C-130 transport plane. “Multi Oridnace Battle Attack Tank," the Colonel added. “She’s mine!” Steeler shouted, sprinting over towards the tank. “What about that?” Stalker asked, pointing to a olive green jeep with rollbar, and double-barreled cannon atop. “That’s the Vamp.” “Dibs,” Clutch said without hesitation, heading over towards it. “Grand Slam, why don’t you try this on for size?” Hawk asked, handing the young man a olive green jet pack. “This is called the J.U.M.P. It’s a jet-propelled backpack, for aerial attack and reconascience.” “I really doubt I’ll be doing much recon in this thing, Colonel,” Grand Slam stated, as he put it on, “But I sure do plan on doing a whole lot of attacking.” “What are those?” Short Fuse asked, pointing towards two different types of transportable cannons that were being loaded aboard the C-130. “The FLAK Cannon, and HAL. We’re going to position those throughout the town to help take control of different areas.” “How many more of these do you have?” Stalker asked, straddling a olive green motorcycle with a gattling gun on the side. “The RAM Cycle?” Hawk replied. “Oh, trust me, we’ll have enough of those to go around.” “Hey, you guys mind bringing one more weapon along?” Lt.-Col. Colton asked, as the team headed for the C-130. “Whatever you say, sir,” Hawk replied, as everyone stopped and looked at the team’s commander. “You’re in charge. What’d you have in mind?” “Me.” “Y-you, sir?” Grunt asked, obviously surprised, as was everyone else. “Yea. Why? You think I’m too old, or too much of a liability?” “No, sir,” Grunt responded, “I’m just afraid if you go, there won’t be anything left for the rest of us to do.” “Yea, right,” Colton replied, as the rest of the team gave Grunt a hard time about sucking up. “I just figured, I owe Cobra a little bit of payback, as well, and I’d like to collect. Plus, I feel this is going to be a big one, and it’d be awful hypocritical of me to send you guys out there, into the blind again, while I’m sitting in a stuffy office, stale coffee in my hand, and my feet propped up on a rickety old desk.” He grinned, and the team grinned back. “I belong in the field…I belong with you guys.” “Alright, Lt.-Col. Colton,” Breaker said happily, shaking the man’s hand. “Hey, I’m in the field now, I’m one of you, so drop this Lt.-Colonel crap, and just call me by my name. After all, I’m just another guy named Joe.” “Yo, Joe,” Rock-n-Roll said, stopping to bump his team commander’s fist on his way up the cargo ramp. “Yo Joe, indeed,” Colton replied with a smirk. The rest of Delta disappeared inside the cargo plane, save for Colton and Hawk, who faced each other on the ramp. “Is it okay with you if I tag along, Colonel Hawk?” Colton asked the young man, a slight grin on his face. “It would an honor…G.I. Joe,” Hawk answered proudly, before extending his hand. Colton shook it, then they both headed inside the plane to take their seats. Lt.-Col. Colton made his way through the C-130, having left the company of the members of Delta in the back, to head up front where Col. Abernathy was. When the commanding officer stepped through the last doorway before the cockpit, he discovered the Tomahawk leaning against the far wall, both hands braced against it, head hanging low, as though he were going to be sick. "How we doing, Colonel?" Colton asked, taking a step towards the young man as he placed his hands in his pockets. Clayton 'Tomahawk' Abernathy looked over his shoulder at the ledgendary soldier codenamed G.I. Joe, and answered, "Little nervous, sir." "You'll be fine," Colton assured the man as he slowly strolled towards him. "Just don't think about it." "How can I not think about it?" Abernathy asked, completely bewildered. "Go on instinct," the older man advised. "When we reach Springfield, you and Delta hit the ground running. Don't stop and examine every move you make, cause if you do, it'll get you killed. Rely on your training, trust your gut, let your expierence take over. Everything will be fine." "I wish I had your confidence, sir." "You would, if you had a Colonel like yourself leading the team," Colton said with a wink and a grin. "Gentlemen," the co-pilot began, popping his head out of the cockpit. "We're approaching Springfield." "Thank you, pilot," Colton responded, as the individual ducked back out of sight. The Lt.-Colonel then turned back to the Tomahawk, and, still wearing a knowing grin on his bearded face, said, "Let's go catch us a snake." "All right, Delta," Col. Abernathy began, coming into the sitting area where the twelve green-clad soldiers were seated. "We're practically on top of Springfield. This is it." Everyone jumped to their feet, quickly checking their weapons and making sure they had everything they needed, before lining up near the cargo ramp. "I'm gonna make this short and sweet!" the Tomahawk shouted, in order to be heard over the noise of the cargo ramp being lowered, along with all the air rushing by outside. "We win as a team, or we lose as a team! I'd prefer to win, but we need to do it together! Watch each other's back s out there! Treat one another like family, because that's what this is. I want everybody back on this plane when it's over, safe-and-sound, and in one peice! Any questions?" No one replied, but just then, the green light on the wall by the open cargo bay lit up. "There it is, folks! Let's go!" One-by-one, the members of Delta trotted off the cargo ramp, falling into the open air, surrounded by a cystal-clear, beautiful blue sky. Once the members of Delta, along with Lt.-Col. Colton, had exited the plane, the C-130's crew began unloading the olive-green vehicles that the team would be using down on the ground, until the cargo bay was completely empty. It was quite a sight to behold, as the forteen soldiers floated down through the morning sky, their chutes deployed, as the vast array of state-of-the-art vehicles slowly descended above them, courtesy of their own parachutes. Meanwhile, in Cobra's headquarters underneath Springfield, Delta's jettison and arrival did not go unnoticed by the terrorist's radar system. "Baroness!" the soldier waching the screen exclaimed, looking over his shoulder at the raven-haired beauty. "We've got company. Something just unloaded several small, as well as large objects, and they're right over us." The young woman remained silent as she intently stared at the screen, then spun on her heel and stormed out of the surveilance room. After all forteen Delta members landed safely on Main Street, they quickly ditched their chutes, then began getting their vehicles ready for battle. Stalker, Scarlet, Snake-Eyes and Breaker all hopped onto RAM Cycles, while Clutch bounded into the Vamp. Steeler quickly climbed on board the M.O.B.A.T., while Grand Slam strapped on the J.U.M.P. Jet-pack. Grunt, Rock-n-Roll, Zap, Flash and Short Fuse took point out in front of the M.O.B.A.T., as Hawk and Colton joined Steeler on either side of the turret. "All right, Delta!" the Colonel began in a loud, booming, commanding voice. "Let's go!"' The group began to slowly make their way down Main Street, keeping a look out for anything that moved, which Grunt saw after they'd only gone one block. "Contact!" the Delta member shouted, brining up his assault rifle and taking aim. "We have to make sure we don't strike any civilians!" Abernathy warned. "What civilians?" Steeler shouted back, over the noise of the tank. "You said they've got the whole town on their roster!" "We can't afford to take any chances!" the Colonel shouted back. "Hawk!" Rock-n-Roll shouted over his shoulder. "They're wearing Cobra blue and carrying AK-47s. They're not civilians!" "He's right, sir!" Scarlet confirmed, after taking a quick peek with her binoculars. "They're Cobra soldiers! They know we're here!" "Well, just in case they're not one-hundred percent sure," the Colonel began, placing a hand on Steeler's shoulder. "What do you say we give them a confirmation?" "Yes, sir," the Pittsburgh-native replied with a broad smile. Boom! Steeler fired the M.O.B.A.T.'s canon, hitting the street right in front of where the Cobra column had been, scattering the blue-clad bodies all over the road. At that point, the remaining enemy soldiers opened fire, and the battle was on. "Stalker!" Hawk shouted over the noise. "Take the RAM Cycles to Cobra HQ! It's supposed to be under the car wash! Snake-Eyes! You and Scarlet protect Breaker at all costs! We're gonna need him to scramble their systems and decode their messages!" "You got it, Colonel!" Stalker shouted back, as he broke off from the group, and led the other three motorcycles down a side street."What about us?" Flash hollered, as the Delta members on foot returned fire. "We mow these morons down, and tear this city apart!" he shouted back enthusiastically, pointing towards the Cobra soldiers, which encouraged the Delta members to advance. "Yo!" Rock-n-Roll replied, giving a thumbs-up. "I think you mean yo, Joe!" Lt.-Col. Colton shouted, grinning at the heavy machine gunner. The man with the blonde beard grinned back, then hosited his machine gun into position and opened fire. Rock-n-Roll swept the weapon from side to side, ripping the Cobra soldiers apart as he did so, while Grunt, Flash, Zap, and Short Fuse provided support. Once the last one had fallen, the group stopped to quickly reload, while the Colonel looked around, examining his surroundings in order to get his bearings. "What next, Hawk?" Colton asked the Colonel. "We can't stay still too long. With a whole town under their command, there's bound to be more opposition." No sooner had the Lt.-Colonel gotten the words out, than gunfire rang out, ripping through the air, and all around the Delta members. Hawk and Colton dove onto the body of the tank, while Steeler began firing the turrent in every dirction he could. Grunt, Flash, Short Fuse, and Zap went low, as well, trying to avoid getting hit, then returned fire. Grunt, Rock-n-Roll, and Flash laid down suppressive fire, so the bazooka and mortar soldier could pick their targets, while Grand Slam ignited the J.U.M.P., shooting into the air to provide cover from a higher vantage point. "Me and my big mouth," Colton growled, pulling out his 1911, then getting into a squatting position, so he could take aim. "Clutch! Try to get around and flank them!" Hawk yelled over the defeaning gunfire. "Yes, sir!" the jeep's driver hollered back, as he suddenly whipped the steering hard to the left while romping on the gas, causing the Vamp to suddenly lurch forward, then disappear down a side street. "Hold the line!" Abernathy shouted over all the noise as he unloaded with his assault rifle. Seeing their commanding officer pour on the offense inspired the rest of the Delta members down in front of the M.O.B.A.T. to do the same, tightening their grips and picking their targets, while Steeler unloaded with the tank's canon. "I'm out!" Lt.-Col. Colton shouted once his clip became empty. "Yo! Joe!" Grunt shouted, tossing his sidearm up to the senior officer. "What is it with you guys and that expression?" Colton mumbled as he flipped off the saftey, chambered a round, and took aim. Just then, the Vamp roared out of a side street several blocks down the road sideways, then righted itself as the canon atop the roof began unloading. The group of Cobra soldiers sudenly spun and opened fire, as Clutch poured on the ammunition, while Grand Slam began picking off targets from the air. "Now!" Hawk bellowed, seeing the opening he had been waiting for. "Advance!" Rock-n-Roll steadily headed down the street, his ammo belt feeding into the machine gun as the bullets ripped through the blue-clad Cobras, with Grunt on his left and Flash on his right. Short Fuse and Zap hopped up onto the MO.B.A.T. and began selecting their targets, then firing their bazookas and mortar shells, which ripped the street apart. Dirt, dust, and debris flew into the air as Delta continued on down the street, tearing the blacktop apart while the enemy soldiers dropped one-by-one. Once the last soldier had fallen, Clutch pulled up to the M.O.B.A.T. and waited, as everyone reloaded, taking in the destructive scenery as they did so. "Orders, Colonel?" the Vamp driver asked, looking up the blonde-haired commanding officer, who proudly stood atop the olive-green tank, looking around at his surroundings. "Well, if we had the time, I'd say tear the town apart building-by-building," Hawk began, "But like any snake, you cut off the head, and the body dies, so let's go find the commander." Stalker turned a corner, followed by Scarlet and Breaker side-by-side, then Snake-Eyes picking up the rear, when the Ranger spotted the town's car wash up ahead, a few blocks away. "There it is!" Stalker shouted, pointing at the building so the others saw where they were headed. "I see it!" Breaker hollered back over the noise of the motorcycles. Just then, a small group of civilians brandishing assault rifles came out of the car wash office, crowded in front of the drive-through entrance, and opened fire. "And they see us!" Scarlet exclaimed, pulling out her crossbow. The Ranger squeezed off a burst from his weapon, hitting two of the Cobra sympathizers, while Scarlet let loose one of her arrows. It struck the area directly behind the group of gunmen, exploding on contact, which scattered the rest of the ones Stalker hadn't shot along the road. Stalker then let loose with the RAM Cycle's gattling gun, sending bullets into the car wash bay, just in case anyone was inside waiting on them, but he also happened to strike the control panel, which lowered the ramp, giving the Delta members access to the underground tunnel. Before they could reach the wash bay, however, a group of blue-clad Cobra soldiers appeared from a side street behind them, and opened fire. "They flanked us!" Breaker shouted, looking over his shoulder while ducking to avoid the bullets. "What do we-" Before the communications expert could finish his question, Snake-Eyes flipped around on his RAM Cycle and fired off a long burst from his Uzi, cutting the entire group of Cobra's down, then quickly spun back around, facing forward, and continued on towards the lowered ramp in the wash bay. "How did he...did you see...what was...huh?" Breaker stammered in complete and utter amazement, still unable to comprehend what he had seen. "Don't try to figure it out," Stalker advised, as they reached the wash bay. "You'll just hurt your head." The Ranger led the group down the ramp, then into the tunnel, which they rode through with caution, knowing Cobra could be waiting anywhere to ambush them. Sure enough, halfway down the tunnel, gunfire rang out, causing Stalker to unload with the cycle's gattling gun once more. The others had to hold off, for fear they would hit one another in the close quarters, but then one of the Cobra soldiers hit the Ranger's gattling gun, disabling it, while Scarlet and Breaker's RAMs took some fire, as well. "Watch out!" Snake-Eyes shouted, cracking the cycle's throttle back. His RAM shot forward, flying down the tunnel at breakneck speed, while he leaped off, and landed safely on the back of Scarlet's ride. Snake-Eyes' RAM Cycle roared into the group of Cobra soldiers, striking some not fast enough to get out of the way, while scattering the rest, then the commando finished them off with his Uzi as all three remaining cycles came to a stop just past the mouth of the tunnel. "Snakes," Breaker began, looking at his teammate in awe. "Can you teach me how to do that?" "Later," Stalker broke in, shoving a new magazine into his assault rifle, as Scarlet and Snake-Eyes reloaded, as well. "Where to, Stalker?" Scarlet asked the Ranger. "Ohh," he began, looking at the stone staircase that led up to a smaller tunnel. "Those stairs and tunnel look quite inviting." "Yea," Breaker said, looking at it. "That's what worries me." "Don't worry, Breaker," the redhead began, coming up and putting her arm round her teammate. "We'll protect you." "Oh, I'm not worried about that," the communications expert replied. "Heck, I figure the three of us could sit here and have a pop while ol' Snake-Eyes goes in there and takes care of business." "Nope," Stalker said, tromboning the slide on his M-16, "Hawk said we do it as a team, so that's what we're gonna do." "After you," Scarlet said to Stalker, motioning with her hand for him to take the lead. "Much obliged, my dear," the Ranger replied, heading up the stone steps, followed by Scarlet, Breaker, and Snake-Eyes. The foursome made their way down the tunnel, spread out in different positions, flattened out against the curved walls in order to stay out of sight as much as possible, but halfway down, gunfire rang out for what seemed like the hundredth time, so the Delta members returned fire, although halted their progress until Stalker tossed a couple of grenades into the mouth at the far end, which bounced a few times then exploded. "Rush 'em!" Stalker ordered, breaking into a run, as the other three did the same. The group of four sprinted down the remainder of the tunnel, abandoning caution, until they reached the mouth, which is when they started receiving even more gunfire, causing the Delta members to hunker down, two on either side of the mouth, as a horde of blue-clad Cobra soldiers focused their weapons on them. "Colonel!" Breaker shouted into his com-link. "We're pinned down somewhere underground! We could really use a hand here!" "I've got your position with the GPS!" Hawk replied, looking up at the City Hall building as Steeler turned the tank towards the steps. "Hang in there. We're on our way!" Steeler increased the power, causing the M.O.B.A.T. to lurch forward on to the bottom steps, then, once the treads caught, began quickly climbing the wide concrete steps towards the white, column-supported building. Cobra troops appeared out in front, on the upper level leading to the main entrance, opening fire on the olive-green behemoth that was heading straight for them, but the ground forces of Delta dispatched them wih ease, allowing the tank clear access to the front door. "Excuse me!" Steeler shouted, as the M.O.B.A.T. shattered a column on either side of it once it leveled out above the steps. "Coming through!" Concrete rained down all around the M.O.B.A.T. and ground forces of Delta, although the roof still had four other columns that supported the roof, keeping it from collapsing on top of the green-clad individuals. "Full-speed ahead, son!" Colton shouted to Steeler as they approached the front door. "No need to knock!" Steeler hammered down on the throttle, causing the tank to lurch forward once more, then turned his face as the monstrous machine barreled through the doors, doorways, and a generous portion of the wall on either side, sending glass, wood, and brick everywhere. The debris blew into the city hall building, showering the lobby with chunks of what had been the front entrance, as the M.O.B.A.T. rolled on inside, flanked by Flash, Grunt, Short Fuze, Zap, Rock-n-Roll, and Grand Slam on either side of it. Steeler let loose with the turret, disintegrating a reception desk that a group of Cobra soldiers had been positioned in front of. The piece of furniture exploded, while the troops were thrown to the lobby floor, heavily disorineted. "Excuse me, fellas?" Colton began, stepping forward towards the front of the tank, while looking down at the defenseless enemy troopers. "Is this where the city council meeting is being held?" "Sounds like Hawk is right above us!" Breaker shouted, after the ceiling in the domed room beyond beagn rumbling, accompanied by repeated gunfire, and the ear-shatttering blast from the M.O.B.A.T.'s turret. "Tell them to come down the back stairs and flank our friends," Stalker commanded, motioning to the opposite side of the domed room, where a doorway with steps could be seen. The communications officer went to translate the Ranger's instructions to the Colonel, but before he could get a word out, the side of his helmet that held his com-link was struck with a well-placed bullet, leaving his communications ability dead, and the young man scared. Looking across the domed room, on the far side by the doorway and staircase, stood the Baroness, a smoking assault rifle with sight scope in her gloved hands, a sadistic grin on her face as she eyed the four members of Delta. "Our communications are cut off!" Breaker informed his comrades as he tried to get through to the Colonel. "You're lucky that's all she shot," Stalker replied, trying to take aim amidst the constant barrage of bullets. "She won't get a second chance," Scarlet stated matter-of-factly. "Cover me, Snake." The blonde-haired Delta member sudenly shot up to full heigth and opened fire, forcing several blue-clad Cobras to duck for cover, while the redhead slid into the middle of the mouth of the tunnel, lined up her crossbow with the blue-clad Baroness, who was now taking aim at Snake-Eyes, and fired one of her arrows. Scarlet's shot was right on the money, the arrow ripping the Baroness' rifle from her hands, sparing Snake-Eyes, yet angering the raven-haired woman beyond measure. Without her rifle, but not without defenses, the Baroness pulled out a small handgun from the holster on her hip, and opened fire on Scarlet, forcing the redhead to dive back out of the way, as Snake-Eyes returned to the safety of the tunnel wall, pressing himself up against it firmly to avoid the opposition's bullets. "According to the scanner," Col. Abernathy began, looking at the tablet in his hands, before looking back up to a doorway off to the far right, right in front of an intersecting hallway, "There should be a staircase behind that door, to take us to our boys." The member of Delta began to move towards the far area of the lobby, when suddenly, Dr. Venom appreared from out of the intersecting hallway, accompanied by a squad of Cobra soldiers. The Colonel noticed the group's sudden appearance, but couldn't get a warning across to his men before the good doctor ordered his blue-clad Cobras to open fire, which they did. Steeler dropped down into the M.O.B.A.T.'s turret, out of sight, while Hawk and Colton dove off of the tank altogether, to the floor, with the rest of Delta diving for cover wherever they could find it. "Steeler!" Hawk shouted over the raging gunfire, "Turn that turret around and blow them away!" "It's jammed!" the man shouted back in frustration. "Of course it is," the Colonel sighed, trying to figure out another solution. Just then, without warning, the Vamp came barging through the wall behind Dr. Venom and the Cobra soldiers, directly in the middle of where the hallway intersected, sending debris everywhere, and the Cobra faction into chaos. Seeing the good doctor, and remembering what he had put Clutch and Rock-n-Roll through, the bearded Delta member slammed the pedal to the floor, rocketing down the hallway, running Dr. Venom and the Cobra soldiers over as if they were speed bumps, until he brought the olive-colored jeep to a sideways, screeching halt in the middleof the lobby, right in front of whee the reception desk had been. "Sorry I'm late, Colonel," Clutch aplogized in his accented voice, stepping out of the Vamp, while the rest of his teammates cautiously got to their feet. "Kinda got lost out there." "Quite alright, son," Hawk replied with a grin. "If we don't do something soon," Scarlet said, her patience running quite thin as the Cobras continued to pin them in the tunnel. "This isn't going to end well." "Lonzo," Snake-Eyes said, getting the Ranger's attention. "Grenades. Then we mow 'em down." The Detriot native looked at the blonde-haired young man, not as convinced by the commando's plan as the commando himself was, but once Snake-Eyes held up two grenades, and gave his former L.R.R.P. buddy a reassuring look, Stalker plucked two grenades from his own person, pulled the pins, and tossed them. The four grenades bounced out into the midst of the Cobra soldiers while Breaker and Scarlet laid down cover fire, until the grenades exploded, throwing the enemy soldiers into chaos, and throwing the Baroness to the ground, her pistol scattering away from her across the floor, leaving her defenseless. "Go! Go! Go!" Stalker shouted, as the four Delta members bolted out of the mouth of the tunnel, in four different directions, mowing down anything in blue. Breaker had only charged to the right a few steps when a bullet went clean through his thigh, dropping him to the floor. Ignoring the pain, the communications officer looked up to see the soldier that had shot him, returned fire square in the individual's chest, then struggled to get back up to his feet, while Snake-Eyes charged into the middle of the remaining Cobra soldiers, and started taking them out one-by-one without any weapons, strictly in hand-to-hand combat form, mesmerizing Breaker as he limped to cover. The Baroness sprang to her feet, running towards her pistol, but didn't get very far when Scarlet tackled her, sending both women sprawling to the floor in a heap, until they seperated, scrambled to their feet while eyeing each other intensly, then squared up, prepared to dish out the best punishment they had. Stalker and Breaker continued to cover Sanke-Eyes from the perspective areas of the domed room, keeping the Cobras at bay that the commando wasn't fighting off, with the communications officer kneeling down behind a bank of computer equipment, and the Ranger close to the mouth of the tunnel. Snake-Eyes slugged a Cobra soldier with a left, spinning around from his own momentum to drive the point of his right elbow into another's face, smashing that individual's nose. The commando then thrust his left leg out, the sole of the boot catching a third trooper in the gut, doubling him over. Placing a hand on the bent-over soldier's back, Snake-Eyes vaulted over him, legs outstretched so they slammed another enemy trooper in the chest, sending him to the ground, then the commando turned and kicked the doubled-over adversary in the face, sending him to the floor, as well. One of the remaining guards rushed up from behind and placed Snake-Eyes in a chokehold, but the commando easily moved down and behind the individual, pinning the arm he had been choking the Delta member with behind his back, then yanked him downwards, ramming the back of the man's head on his knee, then tossed him to the floor as yet another Cobra soldier rushed up to take his fallen comrade's place. The trooper swung relentless lefts and rights at the Delta member, but he expertly blocked each one, almost as if he were toying with the man, before finally leaping up to drive his left knee into the underside of the soldier's chin, heavily dazing him. Snake-Eyes then took a few quick steps back, leapt up and delivered a picture-perfect roundhouse kick, right to the soldier's face, sending him spiraling through the air to the floor in an unconscious heap. It was at that point, with all the soldiers out of commission, the commando looked over to see Scarlet squaring off with the Baroness. The blue-clad Baroness swung at the redheaded Delta member, who batted the blow aside and slugged her with a right cross, then attempted to follow that up with a backhand, only to have the raven-haired beauty duck underneath, jab her suddenly in the gut, stunning her, then uppercut her on the underside of her jaw. Scarlet stumbled back a few steps from the impact, then tilted her neck to stretch it out, and stepped back in. The two women closed in on one another, poised in fighting positions, gauging the other, until the Baroness finally tried to kick her redheaded adversary, who blocked the blow with her own foot. Scarlet quickly learned the kick had merely been a feint, with the true attack coming from a left jab, which the Delta member was able to pin between her forearms, then turn and fling the Baroness over her shoulder to the ground, thanks to her extensive martial-arts background. Scarlet charged towards her opponent who had turned and gotten to a crouch position, but when the redhead tackled the Cobar Intelligence Officer, the Baroness managed to take hold of Scarlet as they fell back, and use the momentum to flip the Delta member over onto her back, placing the raven-haired woman on top of her, at which point she began raining down rights and lefts onto her redheaded rival.

Okay, so I finished the story a long time ago but never posted the rest of it here. I recently felt the desire to do so, so that's what I'm going to do. Hope somebody reads it and if you read it you enjoy. I welcome criticism/feedback.

The Baroness only managed to get a few blows in before Scarlet's grappling background came into play, as the Delta member flung her legs up, pinning her adversarie's right arm and shoulder in between them, then used her leg strength to pull the Baroness down to the floor, placing the Cobra operative in an arm-bar, which she could not escape, no matter how hard she tried. It was then that the blue-clad Baroness felt her fingertips brush against the pistol she had dropped earlier, causing her to reach for it was renewed despration due to her current predicament. Scarlet noticed the raven-haired woman reaching for the gun, so the redhead gave a hard yank, popping the Cobra Intelligence Officer's arm out of socket, illiciting a cry of pain from her ruby-red lips. Scarlet released her at that point, rolled over backwards to her feet, then, as the Baroness turned over to her left, took hold of her pistol and spun, the Delta member stepped onto the woman's left wrist, pinning it to the floor beneath her combat boot. Knowing she had been defeated, the Baroness looked up at the female Delta member, a glare of hatred in her eyes, to see Scarlet point her sidearm at the woman's forehead, and smile, victoriously.
"Drop it, my dear," a muffled voice from off to Scarlet's left instructed. The Delta member glanced over in the direction she had heard the instruction originate from to see none other than Cobra Commander himself standing there, clad in his battle helmet, and aiming his sidearm at the redhead. "Or I drop you," he finished in a sinister statement.

Scarlet couldn't see the commander's face from behind the reflective, mirror-like plate that covered the front of his head, but she could almost feel the sinister sneer she assumed his mouth was currently forming. Sweat began to bead on the redhead's skin, as she glanced from the commander to the Baroness, and back, determined not to allow the organization's leader to gain the upperhand, although she had no idea how she would accomplish that, seeing the position she now found herself. Out of patience, Cobra Commander began to squeeze the trigger on his pistol, but before he could eject a bullet in the Delta member's direction, a dagger flew through the air, went into the wrist of the hand he had been holding the gun with, penetrating all the way through, causing him to drop the weapon and grab his appendage with a howl of pain. Looking up, the blue-clad Commander had just enough time to discover the dagger had been flung from the expert hand of Snake-Eyes, who flew through the air towards the terrosist leader, right leg extended. The commando's boot slammed Cobra Commander square in the chest, instantly knocking the wind from him while sending him soaring back through the air, into the rear wall several feet behind him, which he bounced off of before landing on the floor in a heap. "Thanks, Snake," Scarlet said to her teammate as he came over and kicked the Baroness' pistol across the floor, far from the raven-haired woman's grasp. "We need to wrap this up," the commando stated in a solemn voice, looking around. "No argument there," the redhead replied, taking hold of the Baroness and yanking her upright. "Here, Lonzo," Scarlet said to the Ranger, shoving the Cobra intelligence officer towards him to hold. "Breaker, you alright?" Snake-Eyes shouted to the communications officer, who was still crouching behind cover on the far side of the room. "Gonna be hard to walk," he answered, "But I'll live." "You can lean on me," Snake-Eyes began, but he stopped mid-sentence when he heard the hammer on a gun being cocked. Turning, the commando realized Cobra Commander had another gun, and was aiming it at he and Scarlet. "Look out!" Snake-Eyes shouted, spinning and shoving his redheaded teammate out of the way as the head snake pulled the trigger. The bullet passed by both Snake-Eyes and Scarlet, but struck a gas line running along the wall behind the commando, which ignited instantly, throwing a fireball out that engulfed Snake-Eyes' head and hands, which he threw up instinctively to protect his face, to no avail. "Snake-Eyes!" Scarlet screamed in unchecked fear as she watched her teammate stumble several steps, engulfed in flames, until he simply collapsed to the concrete floor. Blam! Blam! Blam! Three successive gunshots rang out from the back of the room, hitting Cobar Commander in the chest each time, dropping him back down to the floor once again. Scarlet turned to the doorway that led to the steps that connected the domed room to the lobby of City Hall upstairs to see Lt.-Col. Colton standing there, his M1911 smoking, with the rest of Delta pouring out around him. "Snake-Eyes!" Hawk cried out in desperation, as he dove towards the commando, ripping his shirt off so he could use it to smother the flames, while Grunt and Rock-n-Roll did the same. "Get him extinguished!" Colton shouted, a mix of fear and anger in his voice, as Scarlet watched on in horror at what her teammate was going through. All of Delta watched on as Hawk, Rock-n-Roll, and Grunt dowsed the flames with their clothing, then immediately checked the commando's pulse, and to see if he was breathing. Seeing that Snake-Eyes was no longer on fire, Lt.-Col. Colton turned his attention back to Cobra Commander, a renwed rage surging through him. Stomping over to where the blue-clad Commander was laying, the Lt.-Colonel discovered the man wasn't dead, in fact wasn't even bleeding, even though he'd put three rounds into his chest. The terrorist leader still gripped his sidearm that he had fired at Snake-Eyes and Scarlet with, and was trying to bring it up, no doubt to fire again, but Colton absolutely refused to give him another single opportunity. The Lt.-Colonel kicked the gun from the Commander's grasp, then holstered his own, and stepped back, giving he and terrorist leader some room. "Whatever body armor you have on underneath your uniform may have stopped those three bullets from killing you," Colton began, rolling up his sleeves and getting in a fighting stance. "But I'll be Goddamned if they stop my fists from whipping your ass." Cobra Commander stepped forward and swung, but the Lt.-Colonel batted the right cross aside, then delivered one of his own, sending the terrorist leader back into the rear wall once again. Just like before, the Commander bounced off, only this time, he was still on his feet, and charged towards the Lt.-Colonel a second time. The Commander swung with a wide left, but Colton ducked underneath, jabbed his adversary in the gut, then drilled him with another hard right. The Commander stumbled back a few steps from the impact, but suddenly sprang forward with a right, much quicker than the Lt.-Colonel anticipated, which caused him to take the blow square on the chin, sending him stumbling back and to his right a few steps before regaining his footing. When Colton turned to face the enemy leader, the blue-clad Commander was already there, swinging with a hard left. The Lt.-Colonel ducked under it, but was instantly slammed with a quick right to his left side, followed by another quick right to his left temple, sending the Delta Commanding Officer stumbling to his right several steps until he dropped down to a knee. "Just say the word, Hawk," Scarlet said, stepping up next to the blonde-haired young man, and taking aim with her assault rifle at the Commander. "No," the Colonel responded, watching on eagerly, "We let Colton handle this." The Commander charged towards his dazed opponet, attempting to kick the Lt.-Colonel in the head, but Colton suddenly blocked the blow with his forearm, then slammed the enemy leader in the gut with a quick right. The strike didn't slow the Commander down, however, since he immediately retaliated with a left to the Lt.-Colonel's face, but Colton didn't let that blow slow him, either. He sprang forward and up, undercutting the Commander on the underside of his chin with everything he had, snapping the man's helmet-covered head back as he stumbled away from the Lt.-Colonel before finding his footing. The enemy leader righted himself, then turned to take another swing at his green-colored adversary, but Colton was already charging forward, his right fist heading towards the Commander's faceplate. The blow slammed the mirrored shield so hard it spiderwebbed, while sending it's owner stumbling back into the wall yet again. The Commander pushed off of the wall and charged Colton, but when he swung with his left, the Lt.-Colonel suddenly caught it with both hands, used it to yank the enemy leader forward, ramming his left knee up into the blue-clad Commander's gut, doubling him over, then drove his left elbow down onto the back of the enemy leader's neck, sending him to the floor on his knees. Taking advantage of the man's momentary weakness, Colton spun, then punted the Commander in the head, using such force that the man's blue helmet flew off, landing on the other side of the room, while the mirror-like faceplate simply dropped to the concrete floor, leaving the Commander's face exposed. Fully enraged, and seeing that the Commander was on the verge of defeat, the Lt.-Colonel pounced on top of the enemy leader, who was lying on his back, dazed, and began pummeling him with repeated rights, lost in his bloodlust as the memory of Snkae-Eyes' enflamed body resonated in his mind's eye. "Sir!" Hawk shouted, rushing over to his Commanding Officer when it looked as though the Lt.-Colonel wouldn't stop. "Sir! That's enough!" Hawk wrapped his arms around Colton's chest from behind, and began pulling, but the Lt.-Colonel was lost in his rage, making it very difficult for Col. Abernathy to drag him off of the enemy leader, until Grunt and Rock-n-Roll joined the Tomahawk, finally removing the Delta Commanding Officer from the Commander's defenseless body. "Colton!" Hawk screamed in the Lt.-Colonel's face, which seemed to be somewhere else. "It's over! You hear me? It's over!" The Lt.-Colonel's chest heaved up and down from adrenalin and exertion, but he suddenly blinked several times, then Hawk could see the man's eyes focus on his own as Grunt and Rock-n-Roll felt Colton's body relax, the tension leaving it. The Lt.-Colonel visibly calmed down, so Hawk repeated, "It's over," one more time, this time in a softer tone, to which Colton nodded while looking down at the floor. The Tomahawk glanced at his two Delta teammates and nodded at each, telling them it was okay to release the Lt.-Colonel, which they did, although with some trepidation. Hawk glanced over his shoulder at Cobra Commander, who was lying in an unconscious heap on the floor, his unmasked face a bruised and bloody mess, then back to Colton, who turned and headed over towards the staircase leading back up to the lobby. "Grunt. Can you and Rock-n-Roll caryy Snake-Eyes upstairs?" Hawk asked. "Yes, sir," Grunt answered, gingerly helping the Commando to his feet, as the team's heavy-machine gunner did the same. "What happened to the Baroness?" Scarlet exclaimed, stepping towards Stalker when she realzied the raven-haired woman was no longer in the room. "She got away from me when the explosion happened," the Ranger explained, sheepishly. "I guess the combination of that, and what happened to Snakes was too much for me to focus on her. I'm sorry, Colonel." "It's okay, Stalker," Hawk replied, looking over at the charred head of Snake-Eyes as Grunt and Rock-n-Roll carried him towards the staircase. "I understand. Besides, we've got the Commander." "Sorry, red," Stalker said to Scarlet as he looked at the floor. "It's alright, Lonzo," she reassured the man, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Can one of you help Breaker?" Hawk asked, as he headed over to the Commander. "I got him," Stalker said, turning and heading over towards his teammate. "I'll cover you," Scarlet offered, loading a fresh magazine into her assault rifle. Hawk knelt down next to the Commander's body, hoisted him onto his back in a fireman's carry manuever, then stood up and headed across the domed room, towards the staircase leading up to the City Hall lobby. "I'd advise you not to try anything, Commander," Hawk said, as Stalker, Breaker and Scarlet fell in behind him. "Otherwise, I'll let the Lt.-Colonel finish what he started."

CH.??
The door to the prison's maximum security wing buzzed, then popped open a second later, admitting Hawk into the hallway. The Delta leader stepped into the hallway, silently waited for the M.P. to close the door, then took a deep breath and started walking. The Colonel passed numerous cells on either side of him as he made his way down the hall, walking with a purpose, his gaze focused straight ahead, his mind going over what he would say. Once he reached the final cell on the right, the blonde-haired Colonel stopped and looked into the darkened area, his eyes gazing through the plexiglass wall that seperated the prisoner from himself. Hawk continued to stand there, eyeing the man clad in the orange prison jumpsuit, who was lying on his bed, hands behind his head, staring up at the ceiling, until, finally, the Colonel could stomach the silence no longer. "Good evening, Commander," Hawk said, his voice echoing down the hallway. Even though it was dark, the Colonel could tell that the enemy leader raised his head slightly to see who had greeted him, but the way the shadows fell, he could not see the Commander's face, which disappointed the Delta leader, since he had been looking forward to witnessing the results of the beating Colton had given the man. "Ah, Col. Abernathy, the Commander began in a mellow tone. "To what do I owe the pleasure?" "Cut the crap, Commander. You've been in here a week, and you've yet to ask for a lawyer, or a plea deal, or even a book." "I'm just biding my time, Colonel," the Commander replied calmly. "Well, you'll have plenty of it," Hawk declared, "You're looking at multiple life sentences." The Commander chuckled softly, then asked, "Are you really that naive, Colonel?" "No," Hawk responded matter-of-factly. "I'm confident." "You're a fool," the enemy leader stated, sitting up, although his face was still shrouded in shdows. "I have more followers and resources than you can even imagine. It's only a matter of time before those resources provide me with a...change of venue." "You think your people are going to be able to break in here and get you out?" Hawk asked with an amused look on his clean-shaven face. "Now who's being naive?" "Facts, Tomahawk," the Commander began, slowly approaching the plexiglass wall until the two men were basically face-to-face. "Are facts." "Yea, well, here's a fact," the Colonel began, tensing up, now that the Commander was so close. "You're not getting out. And anyone that tries to get you out will die trying, so you'd better ask for a book, becuase you're going to get awful bored spending the rest of your life in there with nothing to do." "And that's your downfall," the Commander stated. "The fact that you not only think you're right, but that it automatically gives you a victory." "And your downfall," Hawk quickly retorted, "Was going up against my team and I." "See? There you go again. This is the real world, Mr. Tomahawk Abernathy. There's not always a happy ending." "As long as my team and I are marching, there will be," the Colonel stated defiantly. "Because here's one more fact...if by some chance you do happen to get free? Delta will be right there to take you down and haul you back in. Wherever you go, wherever you'll be...Delta will be there." "Thanks for the warning, Colonel." "It's not a warning, Commander," Hawk replied, putting his face against the glass and sneering at his adversary. "It's a promise...and a fact." With that, the Colonel spun on his heel and marched back down the hall towards the exit, leaving Cobra Commander standing on the other side of the plexiglass, watching in silence. After leaving the prison, Hawk drove over to the U.S. Army hospital nearby, where Snake-Eyes had been recovering since Delta had come home from their battle at Springfield. When he entered the building, the Colonel headed to the burn unit recovery, where the rest of Delta had gathered. "You guys look like you're gathered for a funeral," Hawk stated, referring to the team's long faces as he appraoched them. "That's what it feels like," Short Fuze replied from the chair he was sitting in. "How is he, Lonzo?" the Colonel asked the Ranger. "Not good," Stalker answered, looking over at the door to Snake-Eyes' room. "Here's his doctor," Flash said, nodding to an African-American man in a white lab coat and green glasses that was approaching the group. "If you want to ask him anything." "Col. Abernathy?" the doctor began, extending his hand. "I'm Dr. Carl Greer. I've been looking after your man since he's been here. "Im much obliged to you, Doc," the Colonel replied, shaking the man's hand. "But what can you tell me about his condition? And please, don't sugar-coat it...just level with me." "Well, on the positive side," Dr. Greer began, "He's as tough as they come." "I'm guessing there's a negative side," Hawk stated, eyeing the doctor. Dr. Greer sighed, then said, "He'll never speak again." "Never?" Hawk repeated, the statement hitting him hard. "Never. His vocal chords were burned off. Not-to-mention the damage to his face." "Can't surgery-" "Not this," the doctor interupted, looking at the Colonel with a solemn expression. "We simply don't have the capabilities. Maybe after years of several surgeries, but...that's alot of time on an operating table, and it's not guaranteed." "So where does he go from here?" Hawk asked. "That's up to him. Like I said, he's the toughest soldier I've ever come across, period, but...I'm honestly more worried about the psychological trauma and effects, than the physical. I mean, there's no telling what something like this does to a person, how it shapes them, or how much change it will have on their very life." The two men looked at one another in silence for a moment, then Dr. Greer added, "It would take a very unique individual indeed to get past a tragedy such as this." With that, Dr. Greer walked away, leaving the Colonel standing there, staring at the door to Snake-Eyes' room for a few moments, multiple thoughts bombarding his mind. "Lonzo," Hawk finally said, after he had decided what course of action he would take. "Will you and Shana come with me, please?" "Yes, sir," Stalker answered, glancing over at Scarlett as the pair began to make their way towards their teammate's door. Col. Abernathy yanked open the door to Snake-Eyes' room, then headed inside, with Scarlett and Stalker right behind him. When Hawk laid eyes on his soldier, however, he stopped, the sight of Snake-Eyes' head wrapped in bandages like a mummy suddenly being more than he had been prepared for. The young man's eyes were barely visible through the wrappings, and Hawk saw the Commando's blue eyes meet his own, full of sorrow, pain, and loss, so much so that the Colonel had to momentarily look away so he could not only gather his thoughts, but the courage to speak, as well. "I, uh, talked to Dr. Greer outside," Hawk began, meeting the Commando's eyes once again. "He gave me the rundown, and, as I'm sure you know, it wasn't the greatest." Scarlett and Stalker exchanged quick, questioning glances with one another, unsure why their commanding officer would state the negative obvious, but neither spoke, deciding to keep quiet and see where he would go from there. "I want you to know how deeply sorry I am that this happened to you," Hawk continued. "And I also want you to know how incredibly proud of you I am. You're a hell of a soldier, son, and, if it's all the same to you, I would very much like you to continue to serve with Delta. I know the decision is ultimately up to you, but I just wanted to tell you how valuable you are to not only your team, but your country. If you decline, I promise you I will harbor no ill feelings towards you, and not only would I completely understand, but I will wish you the best, as well." With that, Hawk stepped back while looking over at Stalker, who stepped forward, into his friend's view, took a breath, then began to speak. "I've never seen someone experience so much tragedy in one lifetime," the Ranger began, a sadness in his voice. "I wish I could explain why you've gone through what you have, but I don't have the answers. What I do have, though, is confidence in you, because if anyone can pull through this, it's you, pal, and like Hawk said, we've got a place for you on this team, and I sure would like to have you on it." Stalker glanced over at Scarlet, who made her way over to Snake-Eyes' bedside, and took his hand in hers as she looked down into his eyes. "I know you're in a tremendous amount of pain," the redhead began, her voice cracking with emotion, as she fought back tears, "And God knows you've been through tremendous amounts of pain, but I want you to know how grateful I am to you for saving my life. I'm sorry it cost you what it did, and there won't be a day that goes by that I won't feel guilty about it, but...you've got a place here, with Delta...and with me. I know you can come through this. I believe in you. I'll never be able to repay you for the sacrifice you made for me, but I will stay by your side, and be there for you when you need a friend. " Snake-Eyes looked away, so, with tears in her eyes, Scarlett went for broke. "I know you lost your family, but, Delta can be your new family, your second family, maybe even a second chance for...everything. Hawk's right, it's your decision, and we'll respect it no matter what, but if you stay, I can promise you...you'll never be alone ever again." Snake-Eyes returned his gaze to Scarlett's, the two of them locking eyes for several moments, before the Commando reached over to his bedside table to grab a pen and pad of paper. Hawk, Scarlett and Stalker stood there in silence as the young man scribbled something on the paper, then handed it to the redhead, who, after reading it, began to cry. "What...what is it, Shana?" Hawk asked. "What's it say?" "It says 'Charlie Mike'," Scarlett answered, turning the pad so the two men could see it. "Continue the mission." "Ah, Col. Abernathy," a voice called when Hawk, Scarlett, and Stalker exited Snake-Eyes' room. The blonde-haired young man looked over to see Lt.-Col. Colton approaching him, a broad smile on his face. "I've been looking for you." "Yes, sir?" Hawk asked, as Colton took him aside. "How is he?" the Lt.-Colonel asked, nodding over at the Commando's room, the smile gone, having been replaced by a solemn expression. Hawk looked over at Sacrlett, who smiled sweetly, causing the Colonel to turn back to his superior officer, and with a reassuring smile on his face, answer, "Something tells me, he's going to be just fine." "Excellent," Colton said enthusiastically. "Glad to hear it. And here's something you'll be glad to hear- the D.O.D. was so impressed by how you and your team handled Delta, that they're going to expand your budget, giving you alot more free reign, as well as an expanded roster." "Wow, really?" Hawk replied, taken aback. "Thank you, sir." "Don't thank me, son," Colton stated, placing a hand on the Colonel's shoulder. "You earned it. Now come on. I have someone outside I want you to meet. A first-sergeant Conrad S. Hauser." "Hey, Doc," Hawk said to Dr. Greer as he and Lt.-Col. Colton passed the man on their way down the hall. "Can I interest you in an enlisted position?" Dr. Greer smiled at the Colonel, then said, "We'll talk." "Um, excuse me, Lt.-Col. Colton, sir?" Rock-n-Roll said to the team's Commanding Officer, stopping both he and Hawk before they reached the door. "I was wondering if I could ask you something?" "Of course, Specialist McConnell," Colton replied, turning to face the bearded young man, as the rest of Delta came over. "Well, the guys and I were talking, and, well...we're just not too crazy about our Counter-Terrorist Force Delta designation." "I don't blame you, Rock-n-Roll," Colton said. "I'm not either." "Well, we were wondering if we possibly use a different designation?" Grunt chimed in. "I don't see why not," the Lt.-Colonel replied, crossing his arms over hs chest. "Did you all have something in mind?" "Yes, sir," Steeler answered, somewhat sheepishly. "We actually were thinking that, since you formed the team, and are our commanding officer..." "And your codename being what it is," Breaker added. "Well," Rock-n-Roll began, pausing to take a deep breath. "We thought we could call ourselves G.I. Joe." "Really?" Colton asked, eyeing each member of Delta. "Yes, sir," Clutch said, as he and his teammates all nodded in unison. "Did you know about this?" Colton asked Hawk, looking over at the Colonel. "That depends if you like it or not," Hawk answered with a half-smile, still unsure of how his superior officer felt about the idea."Well, I'm very flattered and honored," the Lt.-Colonel said, looking at each member of the team once again. "Sooo, is that a yes?" Zap asked, a hopeful tone in his voice, and expression on his face. "Yo, Joe," Colton replied calmly, giving the team a thumbs-up. "Yo joe?" Grand Slam asked, looking over at Flash. "Sure," the laser artillery soldier responded with a shrug. "Yo joe." "Yo joe," Short Fuze agreed, nodding. "Yo joe!" Rock-n-Roll suddenly shouted entusiastically as he threw his right fist up into the air. The team all laughed, then threw their own fists up into the air, and shouted in unison, "Yooooo Joe!"

Epilogue
The guard made his way through the mansion, walking with a purpose, intent on getting to his boss as soon as he could, although worried how the man would take the news he had to deliver. When he reached the double oak doors, the young man raised his fist to rap on them, hesitated, then knocked anyways, knowing he had a job to do, and that's what his boss expected of him. "Come in," a deep voice with a Scottish accent called from inside. The young man entered the office, then stood just inside the doorway in the at-ease position, waiting to be spoken to by the man seated behind the desk on the opposite side of the dimly lit room. "What can I do for you, Sgt.-Major?" the man behind the desk asked, looking up from the documents before him. The guard couldn't see his boss' face, since the only light came from the small lamp perched atop the man's desk, but the young man was too intimidated to look his boss in the eye, even if the light permitted it. "I'm terribly sorry to bother you, sir," the Sgt.-Major began, "But we just received word that our biggest customer from the states has been incarcerated." "Let me guess," the man began, sitting back in his chair. "The Commander." "Yes, sir." The man behind the desk sighed, then said, "If Cobra's leader is indeed behind bars, then it will certainly make it difficult for them to purchase weapons from us, which is simply bad for business." "Yes, sir," the Sgt.-Major agreed. "What do you wish us to do?" "It seems as though we will need to rescue the Cobra Commander," the man behind the desk said, standing up. "Sgt.-Major...ready the M.A.S.S. Device." "Yes, Laid Destro," the guard quickly replied, spinning on his heel and leaving the office, as the man behind the desk looked over to a steel mask sitting in a glass display case.
