I was into both Star Wars and GI Joe. I had a considerable amount of Star Wars toys before Joe came on the scene. Now when GI Joe showed I wanted them too. My mom told me I could only have one line of action figures. Well, GI Joe won my heart and I did away with Star Wars. Now there was a few times I was able to get some Star Wars toys from other family members during birthdays and Christmases, especially when Return of the Jedi hit. Then I eventually let those go too and kept focused on GI Joe. I really couldn't come to mixing them together. I didn't feel it was right for Star Wars to mix with GI Joe. I came to the decision that Star Wars and GI Joe should stick to their own kind. Mixing the two different toylines was just disgusting in my eyes.

In retrospect, I wish I'd been limited to just one line. Instead of a deep collection of just my favorites, I had little flavors of everything. Action Figure Pizza, I guess. That meant army building was out of the question. "Alley Viper" was his own, unique character in my 'verse until I fixed that as an adult.

I had almost every SW figure from the time they first came out and didn't stop collecting until 1985. I kept them all and would mix the troops with Cobra sometimes. At At Driver and Biker Scout were just too awesome to put away for good when I switched primarily to Joes and Transformers.

Originals? No. They're long gone.
I rebought G1 Transformers for a while, but most of those are gone too. I also rebought a ton of oldschool Joe vehicles that were compatible with the ME figures. So I still have most of those. Even picked up a few vehicles I never had when I was a kid like HISS 3. That's thing's pretty cool. I bought a boxed Pogo. Opening that thing and putting it together was quite the nostalgia trip. |
