Classified Short-Fuze! Next up in the my O.G. 13 digibash/composites. (EDIT: the helmet I've been using in these images is from Bobby Vala's upcoming Action-Force line, so my sincerest apologies in forgetting to credit him on that! I also used pics from Hisstank as well as my own). The other weapons are from the Tomytec Little Armory line). Alas for Short-Fuze....I don't even remember him past issue #1! In hindsight I'd have thought a guy with a really bad temper would be the DNA of all sorts of dramatic stories, lol. He probably wasn't the most interesting of the O.G. 13, so as with Zap, I read his original cardback bio (after 40 years) to see what other tidbits to add. Low and behold, Eric loves shooting grenades as well, lol, and thus his rifle and 40mm grenade harness. I added the glasses too as a nod to his original comic appearance, and with his likeness I did my best to convey the studious type (as it says in the bio) as well as the look of someone who's ready to lose it on anyone and anything, any time lol. I hope you all dig it as much as I had fun in making it!- https://www.facebook.com/groups/3986...ibextid=Nif5oz

I made this for myself; a sort of '40th Anniversary G.I. Joe' love note to my inner 9 year old who was obsessed with everything Snake Eyes, lol (even before he was a ninja). I wasn't going to share it actually, but my dear friend Ken Davis, convinced me otherwise :-) Anyhow, I initially raised an eyebrow when I saw just how retro Hasbro went with Classified in it's recent offerings. But then something happened, a pond-ripple effect of seething nostalgia. So, I just wanted to see how far I could push the ultra classic O.G. 13 look, purely for the fun and no other reason. The boots were a bit of a challenge, because the sort of pajama look to the original figure's pants looked just too comical no matter how I tried to work it. What I went with instead was a sort of WWII style fabric boot covering. Any how, like I said, just for fun. Hope you all dig it! - https://www.facebook.com/groups/3986...ibextid=Nif5oz

My other great sentimental Fav of the O.G.13: Stalker! I'm again brought back to a mild summer day in Vancouver 40 years ago, Stalker in hand (with him Sporting the JUMP) and roaring ALL over the front lawn hunting Snakes, lol. I LOVED the camo uniform, loved the beret and loved his rifle! (and the day the swivel armed version came out and I could have him aiming that thing. It was all over for my Star Wars toys, lol. Stalker had some great moments in the comic too, particularly in dealing out one of the most bad ass takedowns in the series in issue #66 (Borovia arc). But that original figure some of my best memories of childhood. For this render I added a bit of brown to the camo and an extra gear bag just for the fun of it, but otherwise kept it in the spirit of the original. Hope you all dig it!- https://www.facebook.com/groups/3986...ibextid=Nif5oz Classified style Stalker! First things first, this image was made from parts of photos from Hisstank.com and a mix of my own and ads from across the net. The firepower is from the Tomytec line, the kukri knife is from Sideshow's Stalker and the JUMP is a composite I made in Photoshop of a few different parts, including the Med kit of the original toy (I was going to make the platform but in the end just wasn?t feeling it, lol). This one took me a bit of time. Mainly because I wasn't satisfied with the results I was getting early on, so I designed a new ballistic vest for the suspender look (I included a snippet of some really rough sketches from my sketchbook to show a bit more of my design process). Now...as for the flag placement. Almost as soon as I started the image, I felt Stalker needed the flag on him. He was always one of my favourites from Day 1, but one of the moments that made the biggest impression on me was way back in Marvel's issue #22. The JOE team was at a military funeral and about to be strafed by a Rattler, but instead of running for cover, Stalker grabbed the flag from the coffin because he wasn't having any part of it getting shot up. That's pretty powerful stuff, so I put the flag in the only place it felt right to me; over his heart. If anyone should have been First Sergeant, it should have been him! Any how, as for his likeness, again, as with the others it's a comp of a few different faces. Given Stalker's history, I wanted to convey the sense of a man so tough that he could beat the fuck out of someone just by looking at them, lol. Also, I did my best to capture his calm intensity and sense of pride, dignity, duty and honour. Lastly, I wasn't sure what to do about his beret sigil, so I basically copied the version that Sideshow did on their production version of Stalker. Again, hope you all dig it as much as I had fun in making it! - https://www.facebook.com/groups/3986...ibextid=Nif5oz

[EDIT]: Steeler needed some Tank boots, so I modified the Breaker boots to look as close as possible to the real deal. (Changed his face a bit too). I don't often have the time to make mods (still working on some provided by the Vets I've heard from) but today I did. This comes at the recommendation of 'Tom Ripsix Tribbett.' (Thanks dude!) Classified style Steeler and the M.O.B.A.T! The .45 is from the tomytec line, the tank is a scale model from a company called Meng, and the Uzi-pro is a wiki image. The photos for this composite are a mix of my own and from Hisstank.com and web ads. Alas...I never had this as a kid, and it seemed to have a limited shelving run in Vancouver back in '82. So, needless to say, this would be a dream come true in this Classified scale! I'd thought long and hard over whether or not to use images of the original tank that the M.O.B.A.T. was based on, but in the end, and ironically, they just didn't excite me enough. An M1 Abrams with the TUSK kit though? THIS idea excites me, lol! Steeler was a bit tricky. I remember him mainly from issues 1 and 5, but that's about it. I knew he loved his tank and I knew he loved the ladies. Fortunately, the original ARAH card bio came through with just enough info to get the creative juices flowing: he was a young 0-1 in rank and apparently butted heads with senior officers. So, I made him look about like a college kid, cocksure and full of swag with juuuuust a little bit of insecurity in his eyes. Hope you all dig it as much as I had fun in making it, and Force-willing Hasbro decides to Haslab us a big beautiful M.O.B.A.T. - https://m.facebook.com/groups/398663...ibextid=Nif5oz

Page 2.....of my 40th Anniversary G.I. JOE love note to my 9 year old self, would be Zap! Again, this is just about total, complete and utter 1980s Nostalgia (which I'm vibing on really hard right now!), purely for the fun of it (I'm not redoing the whole O.G. team though, just a few favs). I know very little about this is accurate in military terms, but again this is just about nostalgia and how the original design would all work as a modern toy. I chose a SMAW simply because the original figure's weapon looked a lot like a SMAW, and that's about it (John Marco Fincato I hope I got this right!). One key thing for me with those original figures were those funky boots. I really wanted to see how that would look, so the idea here is that they're a type of lace-protector armor, lol. Hope you all dig it! - https://www.facebook.com/groups/3986...ibextid=Nif5oz

As gorgeous as these renders are (and they are absolutely stunning), they make me more satisfied with the vast majority of updates the Classified team has made to the OG13. I LOVE the OG13 (Breaker was my first JOE back in '82), but their designs just strike me as a bit too simplistic-looking at 6-inch scale.
Don't get me wrong, I'd likely buy all of these on retro cards if Hasbro made them, but I think I've really come to prefer the added detail and modern upgrades the 1:12 scale allows for just a bit more. |

I'd give-in and buy the whole lineup here but that's the Hawk I would love to see come to Classified (even above the General). Zap looks great, too, minus he didn't have a visor but it works for him. Scarlett's head sculpt is a significant improvement but she needs a better figure shape. I do like the inclusion of the sniper rifle, though. It modernizes her well and gives her a bit of a desert ops vibe.

Greetings everyone! Just wanted to share my latest render: a classic COBRA Blue Shirt! Yes, it's been a while since I've posted (been focusing a lot more on my own ideas), but I've got a few of these left that I thought would be fun to visualize this way. First, for anyone who's not seen my work before, this is an image I composited in Photoshop, it's all digital, made from parts of figures in my collection as well as from images across the web. It's part of a series that I'd been making and posting here in the groups on and off for the past few years. If you'd like to see more, then do please check me out on IG; address in the images. So, I've got a thing for classic Blue Shirts, that's about the best I can sum it up. In its way it was my absolute favourite of ALL my original JOE figures, because the bad guys were what made the stories happen in my imagination. Hope you all dig it! These look great. I hope Lenny and crew are drawing inspiration. The weapon loadouts are fantastic!

These designs continue to wow me.
Your Short-Fuze design really ups the overall punch that the figure should have had. If Hasbro would have made a head with glasses and a scowl it would have brought the character to life. And the extra gear you imagine seals the deal. It's perfect. |
