Thanks for this repost as I missed it in the other thread. I was way out of the hobby when Sigma 6 happened, so I don't know how I would have responded at the time, but as the brand has moved more and more toward adult collectors and classic designs, I really appreciate the effort here to completely re-imagine GI Joe for a new generation of kids.
I'm not generally a big fan of soft goods on figures below 1/6 scale, and those early waves with the baggy pants and coats aren't changing my mind, but I otherwise dig the proportions and stylization, even when they lean toward lanky. The accessories, as you point out, are very cool, and perhaps more importantly, a lot of fun. Over all, these figures just beg to be played with, which I love. I wish this line had found a foothold with the kids of the time. Yes, I think there was a high priority on playability, and a real attempt to make a toy line for kids, that also could appeal to older fans and collectors. In hindsight, many of the stylistic choices and the scale didn't resonate with the fandom, but, it was a bold and robust attempt. Also, I'm not sure if I mentioned in my write-up, that these 8" figures, loaded with accessories (often large, modular accessories), were retailing for between $10 and $15. It's just a different world now, I suppose.

For artists, photographers, customizers and other creatives out there, I thought I'd share a sample of these magazines I had printed up a while ago, on Blurb.com, using their downloadable software Bookwright.
A really simple, drag-and-drop intuitive process, these mags are great for showing your work in a physical format to galleries, shops, etc. .

5 inch is the ideal scale for a non vehicle based toy line, it is large enough for cool sculpts and doodads, and not so big as to be a nuisance. Anything bigger and teams/groups become an issue. 6 inch plus is great for doinky doink play, but try that with Classified/Legends/Black and you get a mangled mess of angles.
Something around the Marvel Legends Wolverine body. Last edited by Adventure Fun; 08-03-2022 at 11:40 PM.. |

Something around the Marvel Legends Wolverine body. Yes I have been appreciating the 4.5 to 5" scale more and more, in an era where vehicles and playsets seem less viable. I imagine a line focused on figures, substantial accessories, and small vehicles. By substantial accessories, I mean big stuff, spring-loaded stuff, modular stuff, not just 3 little pistol and 2 rifle pack-ins.
