I'm not sure either But I think it might be fun. Here's a babe, let's just call her "Courtney "Cover Girl" Krieger", why not ;) That gives me an excuse post it here .

Check out these GI Joe figures that were done by POPProlific and Hammer Of The Gods Toys. They are pretty charming, clearly modeled on vintage Masters of the Universe.

Couldn't possibly love this more! The Blackheart logo is sublime. Not sure if one's already been assigned, but I feel like her code name has to be Cherry Bomb, right?

I first saw these on Instagram, I loved the mash-up of GI Joe and He-Man style, with a little more articulation, those would be pretty wow. They were a partial influence on my own New Style Joes 2.0, for the toyness factor of them. Thanks I appreciate that

Sigma 6 GI Joe has been a big influence on me so I am going to repost this post I originally posted in the Sigma 6 section of the forum. Because, I like what I said in that post. And I want it to be here in my personal thread, where I post my stuff.
REPOST: Sigma 6 had its share of downsides, but there are a lot of positives that I think get overlooked, as people focus on the unusual sculpt style and proportions - which actually got a lot better, especially in the later waves of the line. For one thing, look at the accessory loadouts they came with. Lots of modularity, they even made spring-loaded rocket launchers cool, finally. You ain't gonna see a Classified Heavy Duty with a missile shooting rig like this: How about a jet pack with pop-out wings like this: Towards the end of the line in 2007 they started to bring in some Adventure Team influences like this, and the "Sigma Suits" (which are like the Rise of Cobra black body suits) got dropped: They even began to introduce wildly imaginative characters like this Dark Ninja Master by the end: The line began in 2005 with one aesthetic, using the ubiquitous "Sigma Suit": And ended in 2007 with a very different aesthetic: I understand how people get hung up on the stylized, almost "anime" look of the figures, and the lanky proportions (which weren't as bad in the later waves). But I think there is a lot that can be learned from Sigma 6, and aspects that can still be incorporated in modern lines such as Classified - maybe the creative approach to accessories, for instance. There was a certain fun factor that Sigma 6 had, you could do a lot with the figures and all the modular accessories. Plus they had amazing articulation for their time. They didn't shy away from bright colors, even splashes of neon, and they got very creative with designs and accessories. Try taking a closer look at Sigma 6 and appreciate at least a few of it's elements or contributions. Also, just try and tell me that it wouldn't be freakin' badass to get one of those Sigma style missile launchers or jet packs in Classified.

Thanks for this repost as I missed it in the other thread. I was way out of the hobby when Sigma 6 happened, so I don't know how I would have responded at the time, but as the brand has moved more and more toward adult collectors and classic designs, I really appreciate the effort here to completely re-imagine GI Joe for a new generation of kids.
I'm not generally a big fan of soft goods on figures below 1/6 scale, and those early waves with the baggy pants and coats aren't changing my mind, but I otherwise dig the proportions and stylization, even when they lean toward lanky. The accessories, as you point out, are very cool, and perhaps more importantly, a lot of fun. Over all, these figures just beg to be played with, which I love. I wish this line had found a foothold with the kids of the time. |
