Every Joe #164: Monstro-Viper
If there was any doubt, to those of us who loved the line back in '82, 1993 is arguably the year the line jumped the shark. There were two figures, Monstro-Viper and Bio-Viper, who don't even look like GI Joe figures. Fortunately, I don't have much connection to this horrible figure. The design is just ridiculous, so I did my best to do it justice, enhancing it with metallic eyes and mottled skin. Having worked on a werewolf comic book about a decade ago, I had some preparation for this and approached it as that kind of piece instead of a GI Joe one. That's the only way to approach it for me, and still respect it. Last edited by Clockwise; 01-15-2022 at 10:49 PM.. |

LMFAO! Another 90?s figure that I absolutely loved! Could not stand Ninja Force Snake Eyes or Scarlett with their stiff builds but I got a ton of play time in with the Mega Monsters!
Monstro was definitely the king of the duo, loved the bright yellow eyes and giant gold fist. Then the weird playdoh gimmick that would ooze through his chest and create little brain balls for him to throw at Joe?s. Haha. Love how you captured his awesome eyes and teeth, the slobber is a fantastic touch! Then that neon fur and the little gold control panel?..spectacular! Hoping we see his brother soon!

It looks great!! I hated those two figures didn’t buy them until I was in my late twenties and came across a bio viper cheap then about a year ago I found the monstro viper at my buddy’s comic shop and grabbed it. After a little TLC I like them. Good fun with my son and the Joes

Don't forget there was a lot of similarly crazy stuff in the Sunbow series. Anyone remember when Iceberg was turned into a walrus?

Thanks, all.
It will be a long while before Bio-Viper goes up. Right now, I'm about a year ahead on pieces. Monstro-Viper was finished back in December of 2020, and stayed in the queue unit its time came up. I haven't even drawn Bio-Viper yet, but will eventually get to him! Yes, AWOL, I do remember that crazy episode, and even made a custom of Mahea... https://www.joecustoms.com/customs/c...96&tags=sunbow |

Yeah, it's not perfect.
One of the problems with working with junk parts is that sometimes I convince I can make parts work that just don't. With Mahea it was the HUGE Baroness shoulders. They destroy the proportions, and with 6 years between now and when I built it... it looks even worse. |
