From 2014, this is Bombardier. Originally an unused/unproduced Action Force figure that surfaced as a Palitoy prototype. The GI Joe Collectors' Club made a version of the character decades later. The illustration is a hybrid of that figure and my custom.

Great job, as always! Bombadier is one I came to know because of the Club release and I instantly loved the character and coloring on him. You captured that perfectly! Loving the smirk, the shine on the goggles and then you absolutely nailed the hands! Always impressed when someone can do hands well because they are so tough to make look natural, not a problem for you though!
Thanks for sharing! Always love seeing these.

Thanks, very much appreciated.
The trick to drawing hands- for me, at least, is to draw the hand as a mitten. Then I go back and carve out the negative spaces between the fingers. Weird, but it works for me. I like what the club did with a lot of its figures. But the Flash/Tripwire torso is one of the worst because of the mid-torso articulation joint. Why couldn't Hasbro have made the chest pad removable to hide it? Otherwise the club did a good job on it. |

Awesome! At some point I want to give drawing a shot again, was always terrible at it but I’ll try your hand method when I get some time for it. Never heard that one before. I always just went right for the fingers and it never worked well, haha. Thanks for the tip, much appreciated!
Flash was my favorite 25th figure for the longest time so it’s probably the outdated mold that carries the most nostalgia / fondness for me. I agree that they should have hid the breaks better, not sure if it’s just because I didn’t have the original or what but for whatever reason all of the guys using that build just worked for me in 25th anniversary.

If you like it, do it. Even if you're not as good as you'd like to be.
You will get better. Since I started this project last year, my art has improved. Maybe not noticeably to anyone but me, but the acts of drawing/inking/coloring have taught me new things. Whenever I learn a new trick or skill, it's very satisfying and zen-like. The Flash body could be improved by setting the mid-torso spot fixed, and then filling/sculpting the gap with epoxy. I'll have to try that on a custom eventually to see if I can tolerate the figure better that way. The Flash body was used for some pretty good figures, like the Cobra Explosive Expert (if I remember correctly) in the Desert set. |
