Love Knockdown, the others I'm "meh" on.
One of the guys I work with, his son is in the Army (in Afghistan I believe right now) and is trained on operating the UAVs. Is anyone developing something along the lines of the Skyhawk? That would seem a logical progression for helicopter companies to move in.

Glad you like Knockdown.
Not that I know of. Thrust-vectoring isn't a very efficient means of achieving lift (an AV-8B Harrier, for example, wouldn't be able to hover for more than 10 minutes at most... it would exhaust its engine's water cooling stores and/or its fuel stores). Since the Skyhawk doesn't have any wings to provide structural lift (unlike the Harrier), I'm assuming it uses vectored thrust to provide it with forward movement and lift. Something like the Skyhawk probably shouldn't be able to fly for more than a few minutes in the real world. |

There's gotta be some direction that they can go that keeps the functionality of the helicopter that is desired, but gets rid of the negatives.

As it stands, the best rapid deployment platform for company-sized operations like I imagine GI Joe would be involved in, in my mind, is the C-27J STOL (which the Army and Air Force are only starting to incorporate). It's basically a lightened and shortened C-130J. It can carry as much as a C-130 in terms of gross weight (and fly further), it can land and take off from surfaces as unstable as loose sand, and needs less than 455 meters of runway to take-off (I think that's a record of some sort). Even better. I can hook you up with the brochure
C-27J product brochure (2 Mb PDF file via sendspace) With a JATO (jet-assisted take-off) set up (like the one used for the C-130 in ), I think a C-27J can probably take off with just 300 meters of runway. |

I think a color change is really all that's needed and the Haxzor name works a lot better, similar to the Faceless and Stormer name changes. Since there's no philosophical objections like what you had with the Ninja Force characters (which I completely agreed with), a slight change would do the trick.

As your project has gotten more expansive, I think it's key to get the fundamentals of each character down; when you only had 50 or so well known Joes, you could be more loose. "Black guy with some climbing gear and a hat? Alpine!" But in time, you started to go back and refine those details on your earlier offerings, and they look better for it. The same mindset should apply to everyone, even if a character is a bit boring or out of touch. I just figure that you've gone to the trouble to make nearly every character you use have a basis somewhere, that I want to encourage you to stick to those design principles.

I like the basics of the FPS guy, loving the gun, maybe rework it all into more of a combat/direct action guy?

Yeah, I'll be re-using the main body for a direct action guy. But as a remake of Sgt. Hacker, I think I'll be looking elsewhere for a basic design.

I wanted to answer my own question earlier about how many Helicopters the Army is slated to buy. I found this, but there is an infinite amount of info on this site.
Modernizing the Army's Rotary-Wing Aviation Fleet Congressional Budget Office - Modernizing the Army's Rotary-Wing Aviation Fleet I know this is 2007 but if you want to know what the army is up to, follow the money. It ain't light reading and I've barely scratched the surface. This is from the Congressional Budget Office, so they have to know. |
