WOW!! I cannot believe I missed this! As a long time fan of Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps, I can say that this is truly inspiring. What an original, fantastic, and innovative design. Too bad the monkeys at DC Directionless cannot figure out something this badass. Thank you for sharing this masterpiece!

You're packaging is better than 99% of the stuff that's been on on the shelves over the last 10 years!

Thanks... reminds me, I still haven't received my grades yet... hmmmmm...
Thanks! I'm hoping to do another one since there are a few flaws in this one. The ultimate goal was to make something that I'd want to hang up on my toy room wall... and take with me to an interview. |

Thanks! I'm hoping to do another one since there are a few flaws in this one. The ultimate goal was to make something that I'd want to hang up on my toy room wall... and take with me to an interview. If you do not mind, I will pass on some professional advice. The only problem with your package is it would never cost out due to the complexity of it. Your package is very creative and aesthetically pleasing but you have to be ready to give up some things to make it a reality for 7.99-11.99 price point. I am a Toy designer who has worked at Mattel and other Toy companies for the past 8.5 years, there is a reason why sweet packages like this are not on shelves - cost. Most packages in this category have to have an EXF of $1.15-$1.25 or less. You have to take into consideration that this is mass produced and 75-85% hand assembled package. If it takes too long to pack you will slow production time down and increase your cost. The dies cut of the cardboard and folds also increase cost. Then you have to pass the drop/transit tests which could possibly alter your design and increase cost. My professional advice if you are to bring this to an interview (especially to a toy company) and you really want to impress them, have a more simplified version ready to go with you, show it after your initial design. You can show your great design first to show off your creativity and understanding of the product at hand. But having a more simplified version (Not bare bones but pulled back a bit) you will also show you practical business sense that you understand you have to meet cost requirements but can still maintain the energy of your free-reign design. It also shows you think broad, can push the envelope but can still maintain a profit margin that is so utterly crucial to our Industry. That's true ideation. Trust me if you show that you will get the job. There are a lot of very talented people out there who do some very creative work, the only problem is often times their designs are not feasible and they are unwilling to give any ground. Those kind of artists do not get the job. Your work is great, the package is sweet but consider a look at the real world spectrum, you can show up your classmates with that line of advanced thinking. It's the classic Artist vs. Designer mentality. You can also impress your teacher. Last edited by JACKOFTRADZE; 01-06-2009 at 01:12 PM.. |

Thank you for the advice! I will do that!
Best critique yet! The teacher could care less about practicality though... this was an argument I actually brought up to him. I'm glad to hear that someone else is there with me on it! |

Every time I look at that, I realize how bad ass the GL Corps are. Something like that would really set itself apart form a lot of the other junk on the shelves. Of course I would never see it, because they would always be sold out, lol.
