If he was paying the shipping back I could see that as fair, i dunno, ebay has always sided with me with issues like this, odd they didnt help you...must be since he offered a somewhat albeit ridiculous solution to the issue and its on you now to accept it, mine never offered a solution or never responded to ebay's inquires. Probably why he told you what he did, was his get outta jail free card...

Unless it has it stated in his returns on the auction he shouldn't be able to make you pay for the return shipping like that. Pretty sure ebay has something like that in their rules. If ebay fails to help then go to paypal.

My auctions say if you're not happy, you pay to return it and I refund your original price. Gotta read the fine print.

By the way my SDCC set from last year was damaged in shipping from HTS... so it does happen. And from what I'm reading about this year's set, it wasn't packaged well to begin with.

My set came unopened with a big lump in it from the booster because Hasbro tried to pack too much stuff into that box.

Unfortunately so did mine, it's located at the AN in Transformers. It's not too noticeable from afar, but still just knowing it's there is annoying me. Seriously considering purchasing an empty box to replace it... and it's done, got a minty box for $30 free shipping on a BIN.

I have heard so many stories about legit items getting refunded due to buyers basically running scams that I think if you file a real complaint about a damaged item they will refund your money and you keep the item. For instance, I heard a story where a buyer complained about a broken part on a vintage toy and it was clearly described and photographed in the description, they took the money back from the seller to refund the buyer, and the seller did not even get the item back.

The box may be damaged but the entire set isn't worthless. Were you planning on opening it anyway? That is most of the value in the set right there. You could probably still push the hole out to clean up the appearance a little. I guess it just depends on the kind of collector you are. The toys will be on display in my collection but the box will be behind the door with the other 2 set boxes. They are nice, but not look-at-everyday nice.
