This auction being front paged is meant to be retrospective and to spotlight the grading milestone of this particular figure. It's not being brought forth as breaking news, it's simply being featured. There are some pretty serious 25th MOC collectors who collect and preserve via AFA. Some of them are always on the look out for a more mint product.

Not many I do believe. This figure is indeed rare and for it to be graded this high....well, someone will be happy. I have seen this and if I had the scratch, it would be mine.

I appreciate all the comments; pro and con. This is more about a discussion on the figure, the grading and where it fits into the GI Joe toy world.
According to AFA's Population Report, there are no uncirculated Pipers.

I think I am one of the few to actually have an opened one. I got the other autographed and it is sealed. Regardless, anyone who has one should consider themselves fortunate....and then there is Glumby who got the test shot from China - the lucky bastard. ;-) The other myth about this figure is that it is a 25th figure. It is not a 25th figure. It is an o-ring DTC style figure. The 25th logo on the package was from the convention that year. This is NOT, nor should it be included as, a figure on the 25/ME/ROC/POC style checklist. So you 25th completists, take a sigh.

I remember the hate that spewed (and this thread is evidenced that there is still some out there) on this when it was announced and the number or people who either passed on it or got just one was amazing. I got two at the con that year. I think the club was sold out of these by mid-day on Friday, which was the first time in my memory that the club ever sold out of any con exclusive before Sunday. I think the lesson learned for many this year that when the club has something, regardless of what the masses think about it, don't hesitate to get it. The value of convention items hold pretty well and rarely go below their cost.

I originally purchased 3 of these from another collector. They were shipped to me in a box that was not well packed. Each figure was bagged and boarded like a comic book. One had a damaged card, so I opened that one for my collection, sold a second to another collector and sent the third off to AFA. The way that they were originally shipped to me made it even more impressive that it graded so high. There is some good news on this item. I closed the listing b/c I came to an agreement with a collector in Canada. Piper's heading home. I just hope the buyer is prepared for the customs fees.
