I think the thing to remember is that back in the 80's no one(Hasbro in this case)know how popular GI Joe was going to be.I do remember the only store that had the Shuttle Complex was TRU at the time.I got the Crusader(the poor kids Defiant) from Walmart back in the day.No one collected this stuff back then and scalpers were virually unheard of.I agree you can walk into a store be it a Walamrt,TRU,Kbtoys ect and be bombarded with all this stuff. Now adays at all about de money.Sad really. This is way we don't see any really cool place sets.It all about the bottom line.

I think the presentation of Joe toys, or any toy in general, in those days is a big part of the reason toys did so well then. I don't think any kid of any generation could walk down any of those aisles pictured & not be blown away, & want, want WANT!!

The past is a wonderful place. That's what my version of Willy Wonka would be like. I remeber the old stores that are no longer with us; Hills, Jamesway, Fishers Big Wheel. The toy sections were fully stocked at all times, but no more than when Christmas was around the corner. And by around the corner, I mean AFTER Thanksgiving. Not after the 4th of freaking July, like it is now. Communists.

The first picture looked like a Caldor, which is where my very first Cobra figure came from... Storm Shadow. I still remember the price of him too.. 2.79. Back when the worl was yong, the grass was short, White christmas' morning snow on the ground and a tree with a G.I.Joe H.O. Train made it's daily run. That R/C Dune buggy.. I used to have one. 27mhz. took that thing everywhere. Many missions in the summer were spent with Dusty and Spear Head at the Point Pleasent and SeaSide Heights beaches on those weed riddled dunes. hehe.. Had a Mauler on the beach a few times too. wish I had a video to put on you tube of that thing running on the sand dunes. Man what a sight to see.

Jamesway.... Shipwreck( still have him today from that same store) came from there. I do recall how much they had. I also remember the ole price guns that they would sticker items all the time. I'm curious as to how many switched price labels thinking then that was how you could tell what the price was ? I'm sure some of you have done that!

I wish I had taken a picture of the endcap at the time... it had no boxed items on it at all... just peg after peg stuffed with figures (I think we had a couple pegs of nothing but Crystal Ball at the time)... but any figure from the previous year could be found there, along with all the new releases.

I loved going to the toy store in the 80's. Toys where stocked for a full year if not longer so if you wanted to buy something but couldn't afford it, you could save up and buy it later. Try that now. If you don't buy it when you see it, you may never have a chance at finding it again. I hate that.
