Sold some classic joe figures on ebay, sent the buyer a invoice 4 times over a week...finally got a payment yesterday, along with a notice saying the amount is being held by paypal until the buyer leaves positive feedback or says everything is ok, and they want a tracking number posted to paypal...what a complicated load of crap, just to sell stuff...so what if buyers say...well, I didnt get a part of it, or its not what I was expecting, it could lead to them getting a full or partial refund.....so hopefully a buyer is going to be honest?....yeah right, not when they can get stuff for free.

Dude, if you are just expecting the worst from every ebay buyer, maybe ebay isn't for you. And, if providing a tracking number is too "complicated", well, I just don't know what to say. Stop whining and follow the rules or quit selling stuff on ebay. Sorry it's so hard.

no, I'm siding with the poster of this content.
I started selling seriously on ebay and move a lot of content, and for the first 100 transactions I was told I had a 30 day waiting period until the buyers posted positive feedback. TARGETSIX, yes, you are right too, but not everyone is a straight shooter. Got a buyer that complained about a photo flash I sold that was listed as broken, not working, wouldn't turn on, selling for parts, and sold as-is. He never had to pay as the paypal transaction reversed, and the jack never shipped back the unit. there is no real accountability any more from Ebay. I understand the need to prevent Nigerian Princes & International Lottery scammers, but with fees around 11-14%, Paypal taking another 6%, we're already out max 20% + insertion / photo fees. I eat the cost of tracking to keep shipping low, so the margin for online sales is slipping faster by the minute. Understand the need to protect the buyer, but at what cost to screwing over the seller?

I have done 100s and 100s of deals on ebay. I have never had a buyer try to rip me off. I have only left negative fedback twice for a seller. I'm not saying I'll never have a problem, but for the most part it's not that bad.
I get tired of these stupid threads about how bad ebay is. You are talking about a site that gives you access to millions of buyers all over the world and charges a pitance of what the operating costs of having your own physical store would be. You get to avoid 95% of the headaches that physical store/business owners go through. What the hell ya gonna do? Go to a flea market with your stuff? Go have a yardsale? Put an ad in the paper? Nothing in life is free and there are going to be difficulties with everything you do to try and sell stuff you don't want. Yep there are scumbags out there who will try to rip you off, but not all the people on ebay are crooks. Stop bitchin! Realize that there are costs and difficulties associated with selling. You think ebay is rough? Try opening a store of your own in your local strip mall. Then you can bitch about it being rough. |

from my point of view, I use the buyers postage portion to ship the stuff....plus its kind of like shipping without cleared payment, I think it leaves the door open to be ripped off, thats all Im saying.....

bigdaddyblue73 is dead on point. If ebay is too hard, try operating a retail space. By the way, I assume that you sellers report the profits you make on ebay when you do your taxes, right? Look, successful businesses calculate a certain amount of loss into their operating plans. I'll be the first person to admit that ebay is not perfect (far from it), but hey, nobody's twisting your arm.

eactly. Basically ebay wants sellers to take all the risks (shipping before payment is recieved which i will never do cause how am i supposed to ship without the moeny to send ya know, hoping the buyer isnt a crooked rip off artist or remembers to leave feedback) while the buyer assumes almost NO risk at all. I stopped using ebay when they institued the paycrook only mandate and boy am i glad i did......all these changes they have implemented since just make me wanna wretch. I will love the day wehn ebay goes tets up!!
