So I auctioned off an item and I still have not received payment from the buyer. Today is the 6th day since the auction ended.
I'm new to selling on ebay, I've only sold 1 item before this one (which went smoothly) so I'm not exactly sure how to handle this. I didn't specify in my auction anything about a payment deadline, so after what amount of time should I just cut my losses, leave negative feedback and re-auction the item? *Note - I did send an invoice 4 days ago, and I havn't got a reply. Thanks for any feedback/advice -Zandar |

Well as a seller you can no longer leave negative feedback. You can file an unpaid item reminder. That might help spure the winning bidder into taking care of it. In the long run the best you can do is wait a bit longer and relist the item. You will get credited the final sale fee if you follow ebay's system.

As a buyer (that's all I've ever done on ebay) this issue comes up a lot. Specifying a time limit on payment in the listing is probably a really good idea... it helps you to avoid this kind of confusion. If it's been 6 days, I wouldn't worry. The old "standard" (basically what was customary for stuff like Joes) was a week to 10 days.
I think the best thing to do is to send a polite message through ebay. Just ask when the buyer is planning to pay. Really, the buyer hasn't done anything wrong because you didn't specify when payment was due. So be polite. That usually works for me.

Maybe he died. I wonder how many ebayers die each year without completing their transactions. And then how many of those ebayers return from the grave to haunt the person in which they had an unfinished deal?

well you file a non paying buyer after 7 days (you hae to wait 7 days). you have to wait 7 more days for a response and if the buyer doesnt respond you get your final value credit back but are still out any listing fees (i.e extra pictures you bought, ect). you dont get to leave a negative feedback warning others the buyer wont pay. and you get to run the risk the buyer for fun will neg you, holding up your ebay account and since it will give you a low dsr rating may get you kicked off ebay for up to 30 days.
isnt selling on ebay fun?

This is tricky because you didn't specify a due date.
Contact the buyer via ebay and politely ask about payment. Ask if they need more time. Wait a few days for a response. If no response and/or payment then follow the steps under unpaid item process. What to do when a buyer doesn?t pay (unpaid item process) Once you request Ebay to send an unpaid item reminder the buyer has 7 days to pay or respond. After 7 days you can close the dispute and you will be credited a Final Value Fee. Oh and you will need the item number. It's located on the auction page just above item location. The way Ebay is set up now everything is in favor of the buyer. Buyer can not pay you and screw you over at will.
