I Love a good deal as much as the next guy but I won too good a deal.
I came a across a lot of 19 comic packs with free shipping. I bid $102 with 6 days to go. No one else bid against me So i won the lot for $22.50. I can't in good conscience accept that. A deal is one thing,$22.50 won't come close to paying the shipping for this though. Problem is how do I reach him to make this better? Messaging him to change the deal could get both of us banned from eBay. Any ideas? https://www.ebay.com/itm/29601304456...mis&media=COPY |

It's commendable that you don't want to take advantage of the seller over this, but they could have set a minimum requirement, if that was an issue for them. Since they didn't and still offered free shipping, I'm guessing the shipping isn't an issue for them. I wouldn't worry about it.

The thing I was told by a ebay customer service person many years ago is never set an auction to low, always ask for what you want to sell it for, if it doesnt sell, thats ok, because if you list it low and someone bids on it and say you list it for $.99 hoping for a bidding war which does happen, but it doesnt then you will be upset because you basically gave it away.
Rule of thumb for me is come as close to breaking even as you can and many time i come out with some profit, but at the minimum i dont lose money. With ebay taking 13.5% in fees, well up over the 3% it used to be, plus shipping cost, finding good deals is rough on ebay, but the average person using ebay is looking for a good deal. I have been fortunate in the past to list things and buyers get into bidding wars with each other, but those days are few and far between, most either want the buy it now or best offer option, I have sold over 2,300 items on there over the last decade. As darklordmordred said, it is commendable that you want to help the seller, but the seller understood going in that there was as good chance he or she would not get what they were expecting, Ive had those moments with a sale, you got a good deal.

Hope all is well! That seller may need the $22.50 just as much as the $102. Pay the seller and see what unfolds.

Honestly, as a guy that has been on the selling end of quite a few "fluke auctions", in which a listing closes way below average, it's awesome that you would even consider this- most would take the deal and run (understandably, of course. Hell, I probably would have.)
From the selling standpoint, it can be a bit soul crushing to take such a big hit, especially if you need the cash for something. However, I myself honor all closing prices. I'm going to be an outlier in saying this, but I'd reach out to the seller, ask him to cancel and explain why, make your offer, and have them relist with a BIN price above WAY your price w/ best offer enabled (so no one else swoops you.) It is the holiday season, after all, and that seller may have a family to support. I don't think you'll get in dutch with eBay- their policies are generally in place to prevent people from circumventing fees. They'll be making more than they otherwise would on this sale, so you'll be fine. Lastly, posts like this restore a bit of my faith in humanity. Good on you, man.

Unfortunately I need not worry about it. I had paid right away but i got my refund today as they ended up getting damaged. What're the odds?

So the seller cancelled the sale? Kind of broke the selling agreement, you take the lose, I assume that is what you are saying, i seriouly doubt they were damaged, that was likely the excuse he used when ebay asked for a reason to cancel the sale and issue the refund, my guess he is will relist soon, maybe in individual listings.

Wow - so I guess avoid that seller in the future. It sucks when something doesn't sell for what you want, but that's the risk you take (it's also why I don't do auctions any more. I do the research and price reasonably - it sells when it sells).

Same, for this seller, he rolled the dice on a possible bidding war, he started this auction at .99 and he only got $22.50, it bothers me as a seller myself when i see people who dont honor the agreement, Ive been on both ends of those kind of sales, but i always honored them, if i were the buyer i would report the seller.
