I don't get it. I see a lot of customs selling for HUGE money on e-bay. I watched a custom Optimus Prime sell for $3500 granted it was made by FrenzyRumble but still.
I watched the Custom Resolute Storm Shadow go for around $150. But every time I put up a custom Joe, I barely even break even.. Which I didn't on Zartan.. he cost me $25 to make plus $5.35 in Listing fees + Selling Fees. + Pay Pal Fees. Is it just a bad time to sell customs at all? I thought my Transformer custom would get me around $300 based on other customs I see sell, but the best bid I got was $35 so I ended it early. Has anyone else experienced similar grief? Is it better to just put a Buy It Now Price on them?

Maybe it's me...but only custom pieces I look at are from Jin. I generally look at what else is available as well as what is on the 'tank and modify it to my own specifications and abilities. Besides, at the moment, the only things that have caught my eye are the Nano's and Night Adder.

Honestly, I think customs are a very opinionated field. What you may like may not be a common look. For example, my collecting theme and preference in style is not well liked by the common collector. The transformer that went for 3000+ may have been something in style or appearance that someone with lots of money may have been looking for. Obviously quality has alot to do with it as well but again that has alot to do with a collectors taste. Don't give up, keep doing what you enjoy.

Not all customs are created equal, it's a quality thing.
The one's that are worth a lot will go for a lot. |

Like Runamuck suggested, it typically depends on quality over anything else. The closer to an actual product it looks (Bad Sociologist, Alyosha, ect) or the more intricate the detail (Frenzyrumble) people are willing to pay up. Whenever I go on eBay and see gloppy, shiny enamel paints used on a custom, big Robot Chicken style googly eyes or visible glue marks... ehhh... it gives pause. ; )
Now, I don't think I've ever seen your customs, Zman, so don't take this as a comment on you. I'm just saying the trend I recognized. Tom

Please stop talking. The amount of insider information that you have is exactly zero.
Know how I know this? Because you posted a declassified flyer which was meant for fun as a NEWS ITEM. No one would ever tell you anything because the VERY FIRST THING you would do is post it here. Probably incorrectly. |

yup yup gotta agree, well said. You should also not expect to make so much off the bat from one custom. You said you expected to make 300 bucks on a transformer custom, c'mon dude don't set yourself up to be disappointed like that when it don't sell. It’s all about timing and unfortunately for you the timing was wrong that time.
I don't think many of you guys realize how much and how many customs are selling for a good chunk and many of them IMO are not that high in quality. FTR... my Serpentor Custom sold for $90
