I'm based in the UK and regularly purchase Joes from the U.S. via eBay.com. Shipping of a single figure from the U.S. to the UK is approximately $10 to $15 maximum depending on the seller and the shipping method. I've bought hundreds of items over the years.
I've just purchased a single figure from the U.S. and the shipping quoted by the Seller is $28 which I politely queried and requested an invoice. The Seller has informed me that it only costs $6 to ship the figure, however, eBay take $22 and eBay won't let the Seller change the $28 shipping quote. This doesn't sound right to me, it almost sounds unlawful. Has anyone experienced this before? |

Ebay does take a percentage of what the seller charges for shipping. The seller sets the shipping price while listing the auction and can change it at the end while sending you a final invoice. I do not believe it is unlawful but sounds ridiculous to me. Maybe the figure did not sell for what he thought it should go for and is trying to make up the difference on your shipping.

I ship all over the world, though to be frank I have not shipped to the UK. But from South America to Eastern Europe I have never heard of such a thing. Ebay will take their cut for sure but even IF he was trying to push off EBay's take onto you (which he should have worked into the asking price to begin with) I have never seen Ebay take more that 20 percent from me. I have sold $1.99 Joes and a $225 carded Club Dial Tone just to give you the range of figures that I have sold. It is possible the he looked in to the shipping cost online and was confused-the Post Office's webpage will default bring up the more costly Priority Mail rate and you have to click a separate tab to get the cheaper First Class rate, so MAYBE he didn't realize that there is a cheaper shipping method, but that would not have anything to do with EBAY.
I would defer this the Ebay and see if they can clear up the matter but as an international seller I have never heard of such a thing. There may also be a tax issue if the seller has a Store, not sure if Store's have to pay a tax or not, my experience is strictly as a private individual seller.

What was the shipping price in the original listing? That's what you should be paying unless you bought multiple items and he lowered the cost for combined shipping. Shipping should never go higher than what was in the original listing.

I see a lot of ridiculous Ebay shipping prices these days. Like $30 or $40 for a single figure. No idea what's going on with that, but I don't think it's just sellers trying to be greedy.
Another thing I noticed is that items from some European countries don't show up in the searches at all unless you do an advanced search for that particular country, and others don't show up even then. Anyone else had this? I notified Ebay about it, and got some absolutely ridiculous BS reply. Ebay is in the pits.

It will cost $26.50 to ship (1) carded figure, valued at $15 via Priority Mail International Small Flat Rate Box from the U.S. to UK at the Post Office. The seller might not ship International often and is making sure it's done correctly. I believe eBay will only protect sellers who use Priority International. I use the eBay Global Shipping Program and ship about one International item per week.
