My general approach to using eBay is to decide what I'm willing to pay for the item I want, and then I go on eBay, and I make a bid with that amount, and forget about it until the auction is over. That way I never have to worry about being sniped because I never would have put in a higher bid anyways. If someone grabs it at the last second, that means they payed more than I was willing to.

The whole premise of this thread makes no sense. Why would ebay allow one buyer to harass another?
Guys, if you're a buyer, it only makes sense to snipe an auction. Otherwise, you end up paying more. I'll never understand why people place bids early on in a listing. Unless, of course you don't have access to eBay at the end of an auction. |

eBay needs to do a lot of things differently, but I don't think what the op is proposing is one of them.

I determine what I am willing to spend, bid that amount and wait to see if it ends with me winning or not. Nothing out there is a "must have or will die" situation.
Example - I am buying 1993 MOC items to complete my 1993 series. I just keep browsing for my bottomline with shipping amount and wait and see after I bid. I am not spending much on them so I watch for the deals or look for the same seller for several to save on shipping. Does it irritate me to lose by 50 cents sometimes? Yes, but that could end up being several dollars over what I had planned to spend. |

eBay uses a maximum bid system for auction bidding, which means, normally, you should simply decide how much money at most you are willing to spend on an auction and use that as a maximum bid. If someone outbids your maximum bid and you still want to bid on an auction...you didn't actually bid the maximum amount the first time.
The concept of sniping auctions doesn't work if people put their actual maximum bid amount in the auction in the first place. You can only get sniped on eBay if you bid incrementally rather than put in an actual max bid amount. |

if you aren't sniping your not trying. bidding on items before the last 20 seconds of an auction only serves to drive up the price. ill put a low bid in to keep the seller from canceling an auction but then I wait for the end to strike again.
