As a Seller, you are expected to leave feedback once a person pays. Some of you may have been on eBay long enough to remember when feedback was not necessarily transactional, and you could leave it for anyone, even for yourself. Anyway... I leave feedback with both accounts usually once a month or so. Buyers and sellers are supposed to leave feedback once the transaction has been concluded. Well, that doesn't happen as soon as payment is received, does it? Of course not. An item still has to be delivered. And no, a buyer has not completed "his end" of the deal or "done his part" just by making the payment. His end is completed once he accepts the item and doesn't file a chargeback with PayPal, as far as I'm concerned, and that goes for myself as a buyer, too. Just because you wouldn't pull something, that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of other "buyers" out there who would. Leaving it once a month or so gives buyers time to let me know if there's been a problem. If I haven't heard anything negative by then, it's pretty safe to assume they're not going to pull something, and I leave them positive feedback. Even if a buyer leaves feedback for me before that, he'll get his the same day as some other guy who never even let me know that his package had arrived. He gets it for being a good customer, not because I want it return, and I certainly don't expect to get it first. As a buyer, I often get a few positives all in one day, because I left all my feedback at once, and sellers were waiting to get it from me. Whatever. As long as they hooked me up with a good product, it doesn't matter. I care even less about getting feedback as a buyer than I do as a seller, and I'm not looking to swap feedback. I just want what I bought, I want it in a timely manner, and I want it to match the description I read and pictures I saw. Quote:

And to be honest, I find asking for it to be in bad form. That's like asking for a thank you, in my opinion. I approach eBay like any other transaction-related process: If I'm selling something, I ship it quickly, insure it against loss or damage if I'm not willing to eat the cost of it, and do my best to get it there exactly as I described it. If I'm a buyer, I bid or use Buy It Now, I pay via PayPal right away, and then I get my stuff. I just don't see any reason to focus on the positive feedback so much. Quote:

Well, why are sellers labeled as "Feedback Hostage Holders" when they don't leave feedback right away?
Guilty. See, it's what happens off the rating; behind the scenes where it really goes down. Sometimes the seller actually states it on the listing, "Won't leave feedback first, etcetera." It's the sheer terror of retaliation for little to no cust. service. Quote:
Is it really so hard for buyers to leave feedback once they've received their item(s)?
The first person to "hang up the call" in an ebay transaction is placing themselves at risk of heartbreak. You could also see it. . .as some kind of electronic "Western showdown", waiting for the other guy to draw first. Quote:
I've always left feedback the minute a person pays and/or once I've shipped their package. As of today, I'm waiting on feedback from 20 different people....ranging all the way back to July 21st.

I mean, granted, you'll always have a schmuck of a seller that will hold your feedback as hostage intentionally. 9 times out of 10, they use feedback as a retaliatory measure when you leave a negative feedback rating for them (ie - look at my feedback. Both negatives I have are retaliatory from eBayers who I left negatives for...and RIGHTLY SO).

So, I guess my question is: Is it wrong to hold feedback until it's been received?

well some of you might not care, but when you're trying to build a reputable account (like myself), you need all the feedback you can so people will see that your a trusted seller.
it's helps to see 100% positive 300 feedbacks, than 100 pos. and 15 negatives....or 2 feedbacks. how we put our faith in a seller...by his track record. so i think it is very important. my $.02 |

As an ebay buyer, I leave feedback as soon as I get the item and am happy with it. As an ebay seller, I wait for the buyer to leave feedback before I will leave mine. I only have 1 negative feedback out of almost 100 and it's from some douche-bag from out of the country that was upset "something" to do with shipping which was never even clarified? He never emailed me with any concerns beforehand. My only legitimate recourse and means at payback was to punch back and leave him negative feedback in return. I also sent him some choice emails that should keep him out of florida for awhile! But as a seller I will not lay down the feedback card until I see what the other guy is holding.

See, as for the "more communication" comment....I have 5 stars when it comes to communication. I over communicate EVERYTHING. I confirm when payment has been received, I confirm when shipment has been made, and I touch base again when I've tracked the package to ensure that the buyer in question is satisfied with their purchase. Communcation on my part has nothing to do with it.
Also, to touch on this: Quote:
So don't ask for it. Personally, I don't care enough to ask for it. If I never get it, then whatever. I'll still leave it for others within my usual month, or however long it takes me. As long as I get my money or my item, positive feedback really isn't important to me. It's a commerce site, not a popularity contest. And really, you have enough for me to feel totally comfortable buying from you, so I see no reason for you to sweat it.
And to be honest, I find asking for it to be in bad form. That's like asking for a thank you, in my opinion. If I'm a buyer, I bid or use Buy It Now, I pay via PayPal right away, and then I get my stuff. I just don't see any reason to focus on the positive feedback so much. I ship either same day or next day after payment is received. I pay for an item the minute I buy it. Bottom line, IMO, there's a lot of lazy frickin' people out there. I mean, no one wants to steal the what?..5 minutes it would take for someone to follow up with feedback? God forbid someone be steered away from downloading porn and playing WoW for 5 minutes. |

Well here's what I think:
Q.: What is the buyer duty on the deal? A.: To pay in a timely manner and be polite. So, I guess if he accomplished that, the buyer already deserve a positive feedback. And let's not forget who is the client here. Of course if you are dealing for the first time with a low feedback buyer you might want to wait to leave feedback for protection, just in case. Q.: What is the seller duty on the deal? A.: To deliver in a safely and timely manner exactly what was in the auction. So, I guess if the buyer intends to accomplished that, he will not be afraid, in most cases, of leaving feedback to his CLIENT as soon as the client pay. And of course the seller deserves to receive his positive feedback. But the fact is that there are many sellers who hold feedback until the buyer leave it. The problem here is as a buyer you loose the right to complain if you are not satisfied because if you do so, then besides you loose money on a poor deal, you will be punished with a negative. Also I believe, IMO, feedback exists first to protect the buyer and second to promote the seller. After all is the buyer who is paying first and blindly to receive their product.
