Unfortunately there will always be some idiot with money to burn to pay obscene amounts of money for a figure with a paint error and not a true variant.

This stuff is rediculous. My CG was missing the shoulder piece on his left side maybe I should have sold it on ebay for a pretty penny.

i saw an auction for one of these a few days ago. also on another thread i could have sworn i read someone say that there was 3 versions of these. gold rank, silver rank, and no rank?

Variants don't excite me at all. And i consider my collection complete without them. I collect for the fun and the memory of when i was younger, not for money. That being said, variants will probably never stop and that is to bad. It adds extra pressure for collectors to get these and most will be discouraged when they can't find them, or afford them. This hobby is about fun, IMO...

first off, I'm not the seller of this item or any "variant" for that matter, and not really defending him/her... secondly, if you describe your item as accurately as you can, I don't think you really are ripping anyone off if they're willing to pay the price they want to pay for it.
