Amazing what a box brings to the net worth of an item:

As I would strongly disagree on this value.
I can say with honest opinion that this ebay auction is a fluke. It's one of those times where some idiot with lots of cash pays 10x more for something than its worth. This is it!! This aircraft carrier is not worth $5000. I have looked at several resources to price this item. The most I saw it priced MIB mint in box, was $1500. 1/3 what its going for now. Now this one has the original shipping box/case. This could add maybe another $100 or $200 max. I have been in the toy collecting hobby and business for 20 years and I've never seen a toy in the modern era go for more than $2000 that wasn't AFA graded. Once something is AFA graded somehow they become worth 1000% more than before thus I think AFA grading is a crock to consumers and collectors. If this guy bought it for $5100, then I hope he's happy with the purchase. I can buy a nearly complete loose C8 USS FLAGG at Brian's toys for only $600. And that's collector's prices. Box only adds about 20-40% value to a item. Interesting tid bit. He listed once before here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-GI-Joe-U...QQcmdZViewItem but ended due to an error in the listing. Yet it was on for a few days and the price was a reasonable $1300. Regardless of the shipping carton or not, this item is not valued at this. I would guess that there may be other sealed USS FLAGGs without the carton but that box doesn't add $3000 to its value. My advice to collectors is research the item. eBay isn't the only place to get things like this. The problem now is someone will see this and throw theirs on eBay thinking they will get $5K. Not always the deal. Collecting is all about reasonable value per supply and demand and how much your willing to pay for something. Last edited by Knighthart; 06-13-2008 at 10:06 AM.. |

http://www.premiercollect.com/GI-Joe...uction_details Thus if this was just non AFA graded, you could see it going for $1500-$2000. I would think this is reasonable. |
