In the other thread, I kind of gave up trying to find an alternative to the ammo belts that Hasbro gave us so I decided to start constructing my own.
I first started forming the idea from this. Armorama :: In-Box Review: .50 cal Shells with Ammo Belt by Pawel Krupowicz An in depth video of the process can be seen here. This is an out of scale mock up using styrene and micro canvas. Only the middle loops are glued to the rounds allowing for the belt to flex a little more naturally. This is a couple early tests of what round will look like. The red is to show the bottom of the round. |

You are far too patient to take on such a fiddly job. I bet you never get road rage.
It looks like it will turn out great. I look forward to seeing the finished product. |

Nice work so far. I was thinking of scratchbuilding a Mk 19 Grenade Launcher and would have had to scratch up some belted grenade ammo for it. It is interesting to see your approach to the problem. What are you using to machine your rounds? I use a VSR drill as a "poor man's lathe"...glad to see someone else who does mind-bending work...
...I'm curious though as to why you are not using thin (not too thin) styrene sheet to make the belt pieces. If you are like me you are wishing you had a "Y" shaped custom punch to do all those pieces... I'll be glad to see the finished result! Last edited by freakintiger; 01-20-2011 at 10:31 PM.. |
