Has anyone ever replaced the rotor assembly on the tomahawk with a different toy helicopter rotor? With blades VERY expensive online and quite rare, I thought this might be a cheaper alternative. I have two basically complete tomahawks with 3 blades between them :(

The guy I'm borrowing the heat from does a lot of sculpting (art major). He says he may be able to help me find a way to create a mold to produce a few replacement rotor blades. For now it's only talk. We'll see what happens in the next few weeks.

When I got my Tomahawk many years ago it had the same problem with dropping blades. I held them over a flame on the stove to heat them then placed them on a flat serfice with a book in them. You have to be very careful but it worked like a charm and look out of the box new.
Give that a shot if you like. |

Let me know if he comes through - I think there is quite a lot of business on here for someone who makes a successful replacement blade for a decent price.

The blades can be bent back into shape using a variety of heating methods, i.e. boiling water, hair dryer, heat gun, etc. Just be patient and take your time. One of my blades snapped back in the day and had to be super glued back on.
As for the factory glue on the fuselage, I didn't pull the whole thing apart so I can't say how that will work. Given the age and condition of both the plastic and the glue bond, I'd again recommend patience and taking your time so you don't cause stress marks or snap anything off.

I would recommend boiling the rotor blades. As long as you have a large enough pot (so you don't touch them to the bottom) you don't run the risk of melting, igniting or even accidentally frying the top layer of the plastic at all. Lay them immediately on a flat surface and "quench" them with cold water.

Just started boiling water. If this doesn't work, someone's going to lose a testicle!
